My wife may be facing pancreatic cancer. The oncology team has assembled and are wasting no time with the battery of exams and scans. Hoping to be early stage as the mass appears to be less than 2 cm. Procedures such as Whipple and resection have been mentioned but obviously all the scans and such need to be completed. Hoping that is by 3 May and we meet the oncologist on that day to discuss the way ahead

We are in Huntsville.

I guess I am asking input or insight into any recommendations for the Whipple procedure. This seems more prevalent than I had any thought of. I guess, hopefully none of you have even heard of these procedures. My guess though, some have experience and I’d
Ike to hear from you. From what I read, high volume surgeons are the best. Makes sense. We will obviously listen to the oncologist and internal drs.

Completely unexpected.

Some requests and talks with the big man upstairs would be appreciated as well.

Lets hope the tests come back for the best.
Something similar happened with a former co-worker of mine. What you stated is very similar with what happened to her. But after procedures (I do not know which procedures) she came back with just a cyst. But the cyst was clearly the kind of thing that had to be checked completely because time is critical with the other possible results.

Major medical centers where surgeons perform many Whipple procedures is what you want to look for and I would think second and maybe third opinions would be best. Successful Whipple procedures may be your best bet for being cancer free but all this will be determined by your team of doctors and what stage your cancer is in.

Prayers for finding the correct team and treatment plan and successful cancer free recovery.

Sounds like they may have caught this very early which is not common because the pancreas is deep within the body and tumors can grow larger before symptoms start to show.

Prayers sent for her. I know nothing about doctors in Huntsville. Mine are at UAB and I know Vanderbilt has an excellent oncology department as well

The Whipple Procedure gave my dad 5yrs of cancer free, treatment free, semi-normal life before the cancer returned.

PC is one mean SOB, prayers lifted for you and your wife.
