The local Meridianville Publix, which is cleaner and nicer than any other store in the area, just closed so they can tear it down and rebuild on the same spot. It was fine IMO, but not up to their standards.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

We shop Publix more for convenience. It’s literally across the street from us. Store is clean. Staff is friendly. Pharmacist is nice. And I got an elderly check out lady who is a patient who calls me when the Yasso yogurt bars are BOGO!! I really don’t know how their prices compare because that’s the only place we shop. I try to buy our veggies at Sweet Creek farmers market. Oh, it’s Wednesday so it’s $5 sushi today so I know where lunch is coming from!

It was fine IMO, but not up to their standards. There is a new upscale grocery store being built further south across the street from the Circle K. The Meridianville store is being rebuilt to match their choices. Both expected to open in 2025. I'll take Publix over Walmart any day of the week. As for the high price of organic, try shopping at a Whole Foods store. There is a reason it has the nickname "Whole Paycheck".

There is a Winn Dixie right across the street from the entrance to my neighborhood. I never shop there and will drive to either the Publix in Northport or the one at the dam. Its not about convenience to me, its the clean store, nice employees and they dont seem to rearrange the store like Winn Dixie always does. I absolutely hate Winn Dixie. "The Beef People" my ass, worst meat department in town. Steaks are like eating a piece of kevlar.

I knew a guy on the Helena Planning Committee and he told me about a conversation with one of the Publix executives when they were getting ready to build in Helena. Publix guy said they would build a new store across the street or as close to every Winn Dixie in Birmingham and drive them out of town. They knew Winn Dixie was in a bad cash position and wouldn't be able to beat them. Winn Dixie in Helena was a ghost town within a year of the Publix opening across the street.

Yep that’s how they work. I’m still amazed at number of stores within 2-4 miles of each Publix. They even open a smaller Publix store across the street from a full service newer Publix. Easily 20-25 Publix stores within a 5 mile radius of my neighborhood. Two Winn Dixie stores put out of business. Amazing.

The Publix Club and app are top notch. App tells me everything that is on BOGO that week, lets me review the weekly ad and make a list of what I want, even tells me what aisle it's on and arranges the list in numerical order by aisle. It also has digital coupons you can clip and add. Put your phone number in when you check out and it takes off all the coupons. I definitely use Publix over Walmarks for groceries. That sounds super convenient! Wish there was one close to me
