I can certainly afford conventional Medicare with the supplement but after researching and talking to friends I decided to go with Medicare advantage through United Healthcare. I have been on this plan for almost two years and can’t find any reason to switch to conventional Medicare. My agent told me that Medicare advantage ppo has made great improvements and 97 percent of her clients are on the advantage plan and she highly recommended it. One of the disadvantages would be overseas coverage but I’m staying in the US! Most of the doctors and hospitals are on my plan and there are very few things that you need approval for. Do you have a copay? How much do you have to pay for the first 7 days in the hospital? Can you go to any doctor any where? I have some health issues. Traditional Medicare was the better choice for me. My only out of pocket expense is the yearly deductible. That’s about $230 a year. I like being able to go to any specialist anywhere without worrying about coverage. This is why there are different Medicare options as everyone has different needs and budget. Do your research and ask questions before pulling the trigger on anything. Understand the limitations of each option before you choose. If you’re aging in and considering original Medicare with a supplement remember that you are not subject to underwriting on the supplement plan for your initial enrollment period aging in. They can’t deny you or ask you medical questions. After that initial enrollment period you may be subject to underwriting and medical questions if you wish to change supplement plans. This is one reason why you need to choose wisely and are making one of the most important decisions in your life.

I stayed with original Medicare and a supplement. The supplement is the high deductible plan g with United America. $34 per month $2800 max out of pocket. I also work with United American in addition to Physicians Mutual. United American has a very long history with original Medicare. They were one of the first companies to begin offering Medicare supplement plans when original Medicare started. Another solid company. Most of my clients with supplements are with United American.
