I was out checking a hayfield this morning and noticed it is now getting bamboo/cane started in it. My father planted this stuff about 30 years ago and it has spread. I don't want the mess getting started and spreading in the hayfield and I am willing to sacrifice some acreage of hay in order to kill it. What will work? I need it killed so it will never return. Is there any kind of poison I can spray that will kill it. This is what I am leaning to if they make any.

TIA

I got rid of a patch with a skid steer once. Dug it up by the roots and hauled it off. In your case probably pile it up and burn it there. I reckon then i would chisel it or turn it and disc it. Likely spray it for a year or so then to kill the sprouts.

You will lose some grass for a bit. Mow it off then spray resprouts with glyphosate when they are 2’ tall. This will be a long battle. Imazapyr is another option. Not much else other than those are very effective. Dozer is the other option.

if you wait till it flowers and goes to seed then it will die on it's own.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

I have that problem. A few years ago I hired a guy with a mulcher on a skid steer to mow it down. It was out of control. I tried to poison it several times when the new shoots came up. Then I just bush hogged it to keep it under control. Finally I noticed my cows would eat it. I fenced the area in and they will strip the young tender stuff. They keep it knocked back pretty good. I wished I had a better option to offer. That stuff is tough.

I just mow around mine and kick over any shoots that pop up in the spring outside of the mowed area but it's in my yard and easy to keep an eye on. I only let it spread in the direction I want it to (it's basically a privacy fence) by doing this. I don't know if this would work in your situation but it's what I do to keep it out of the hayfield and areas of my yard where I don't want it as my home is in a hayfield.

The shoots only pop up once per year in the spring. If you break them off by kicking them over they die and don't resprout but it is a bit like pop-a-mole for about a month as they shoot up all over.

I tricked the city into getting a loader excavator to clear all mine out. All I had to do was let it grow until it became their problem, only took a few months. Once they started it still took them three days to get it done, and they did work full days. laugh
