I like my job but love the fact that we provide work that supports dozens of families and provides a service that makes a difference in thousands of lives every day. I often think about selling out but I believe that this is a calling and not just a job.

I like certain elements of my job but I don’t like my job. I like a lot of the people I’ve met and it has opened me up to my next step of being my own boss.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I'm 63 and been working on big compressors for a long time, its not as fun as it used to be. A good crew makes it more enjoyable.
My wife does love what she does and is the best nail lady/therapist in 3 Counties.

Absolutely loved my job in the Military, not a better job! Struggled to find my way for a few years but landed a great job with the VA. Love that I get to help vets and their families on a daily basis!

I won’t say I LOVE working, but if I was 4-5 min from my job, IDK if I’d ever retire. Not until it got physically too much.

I loved my job. I was a Civil Design Lead for the power company. I had several power plants where I was the Civil Design Lead and any time those power plants had an issue that was related to anything structurally (Concrete, steel, giant flue gas ductwork, etc...) they called me. Often those calls were emergencies. Often on the weekends.
When I got the calls, I went. Some of the things were planned repairs, or upgrades, and like I sad some were emergencies where stuff broke. Usually on the planned stuff they had an idea of what they wanted, such as an access platform to a valve, or a concrete foundation for a new pump, etc... but with the emergencies usually they didn't have a good solid idea how to fix it. Regardless, my team and I (I had about 6 guys working on my team.) always figured out a way to get the job done and in a way that made the plant folks happy.
I absolutely loved it. I loved being in the mix. I loved being "The Guy" that they called when they needed help. I loved the camaraderie and all the long lasting friends I made. It was exciting, challenging and rewarding work. I loved seeing all the things that my team designed get built and see them in action working to make power for everyone in the Southeast.
Why did I retire? Well... It was also stressful. I was always worried that I had forgotten something, or worried that we weren't going to meet schedules, or I might not have enough work to keep my team intact. So there was always something weighing on my mind.
Last year for example I was the Civil Design Lead for 79 projects. That means figuring out what we are going to do, getting plant approval, putting together a game plan, researching all the bits and pieces, putting a set of design drawings together, checking those drawings, getting all the engineering calculations done, and getting those calculations checked, then issuing a virtually mistake free set of designs to the contractor to build. Then providing technical support and oversight to the project through to completion.
That's a lot of work, but I still loved it and I miss it already, however I am much more chill and relaxed now. I'll find other stuff to keep me occupied.
