It seems like the Gobblers have a lot of pressure so they are being tight lipped. What are your tips for hunting silent Gobblers?

Get where he likes to be before he gets there. Call very light and very sparingly, or maybe not even at all, with light scratching or only purrs. I hate bush whacking gobblers, but old educated silent birds aren’t going to get killed unless they really mess up bad. I’ve had a few over the years that you couldn’t kill unless you were sitting between where he roosted and where he was going, and if you touched a call the hunt was over. I’d rather fish now than hunt a bird like that. I enjoy the back and forth of a good love song.

i loved hunting them kinda birds when i really hunted . the biggest thing or bad thing is some have shot all in the meat festered up and couldnt eat them .. what i really like was killing them and pissing they ones that made them like that or shot them up . lol

i come across one like that early on in the season i leave him to last of season . if you dont you might wound up killing none . lol

I don’t. I either find one that will play or I go home. It can be done and I’ve done it but it no longer interests me to kill one if I can’t go toe to toe and beat him at the game.

My advice is to go as much as you can. It’s my opinion that every turkey has one or two days a year he wakes up ready to die. In order to kill those kinds of turkeys you need to be there on their day.

Go fishing. Calling him, getting him where you want him away from what he was going to do is the challenge. Sitting and waiting no fun. Killing him is the easy part.

i've got 2 gobblers on camera regularly but I havent heard them gobble all year. Screw em. If they dont want to gobble and play the game, I dont want to kill them. No bushwacking for me.

It's tough to deer hunt them, which seems to happen more often these days. It wasn't this way when I started in 1998.

No shame on bushwhacking one from me. Is it more fun when they gobble? Of course, but I'll kill whatever will die, and it's harder to kill a silent one. My advice is to figure out where he wants to be, and beat him there. A lot of scouting, a lot of patience, and a lot of luck helps.

I’m not gonna deer hunt a turkey. The interaction and the “chess match” is the entire draw to begin with. If it got to where the only way to kill a turkey was to slip into a spot and wait, hoping a bird wandered by, I’d never hunt one again

This is really good advice. There will be a day when that bird will talk. If you are there on a day he is hot, it can be magic.

We all probably screw these birds up. Call to them and then move when they are silent. If they bust you, it will be difficult to call them later.

Silent bird spoke a few times this morning on the limb. Never said a word on the ground, but he died anyway. I called once and killed him 55 minutes later slipping in behind me.

I heard 2 gobbles way off in the distance last friday morning, and that's all I haver heard all turkey season. No response to a single call with a call back. But I have more guys hunting them this season, so that could be it too.
