Anyone had a lot cleared recently? Looking at maybe having about a half acre cleared. It is wooded.

We got a guy locally that charges 200 an hour, 3-hour minimum charge. Can handle up to about 15-inch diameter trees.

Cleared in what sense??

Run a forestry mulcher through it taking out all the underbrush or cleared meaning ALL vegetation and ALL stumps removed from property?

Complete clearing ready for a home site is going to run you about $3000/acre.

Or more.

Too bad you live in LA. I have a buddy that lives in Carrollton, GA that has a land clearing company. But I doubt he travels farther south than 85.

Yep. If it’s a small site it’s going to be higher per acre for mobilization, especially depending on size of brush/trees present on site.

Edit to add: Can brush be burned on site or does it have to be hauled off? That’s another added expense. Dump trucks running $100-150/hr around here. Adds up quick

Depends on the size/quantity of the trees, my pull a number from my rearend guess is $6,000-10,000 for a construction entrance and clearing
That’ll depend if debris can be burned on site or hauled off.

SouthBama if possible you should try to keep a few big trees that won’t damage the house and can be worked around.
For the trees that come down if they’re anything good or useful try to incorporate them into the home build.

We’re having a fire place mantle made from a red oak that was cut down at our house

I think youre pretty close. I asked a friend of mine who does excavating, one acre with large trees in Oneonta city limits $10k. However, i know of a lady who got 10 acres cleared for $7k. It really all depends on the size and amount of trees and the terrain. Personally, i wouldnt clear an acre of small trees, pile and burn, for $3000.

I absolutely loathe trees for everything but shade, and I’m not sure if the benefit outweighs the negatives lol. It’s all younger pines and I doubt I’d want to keep any. Don’t own the lot yet, just trying to throw rough numbers together to see what our options are if we purchase.

Sounds like it’s scrubby and junk trees, I would remove them all in that case.

Something I would recommend is a 40’ property entrance.
Obviously check with your city/county to be sure that’s acceptable.

With tree removal, De stumping the land and hauling I would expect at least 10K.

$250 per hour around here anything more that $300 per hour is robbery and a 1/2 acre will not take long if you have a good operator

It’s not going to be just clearing for a home site. Probably have to bring dirt in, grading, etc. I’d say close to $5-7k maybe higher having just done similar myself. But it really all depends on the site. Mine was an acre had to bring in a good amount of dirt. I also had a bunch of other work done on my roads and trails while they were there too. Loads of dirt can add up quick.

Clearing , leveling out the house site, putting in a pipe, roughing in the drive , would be 5-7K around here.
