This is in Atlanta, it also happened in Houston yesterday. Black folks were told through some online source that they have to show their ID at the IRS office in order to get their refund check...ON SUNDAY! And look what happened. (TL;DR.......people are stupid and incapable of following basic instructions)
reading some of the comments, sounds like it went down like this....
due to an increase in identity theft and people trying to steal other folks' refunds, folks had to verify their identities in order to receive a refund. several comments say people were given the option to do so when they filed. For those who didn't do it when they filed, they were sent a letter stating they had to do so before they could get their refund. Several comments said the letter gave instructions on how to verify it online but gave the option to "get assistance" in person at the office on a specific day. A lot of these idiots apparently didn't read and follow instructions and freaked out and went to the in-person office hours. I'm sure a lot of folks there didn't even get the letter but heard by word of mouth and thought it applied to everyone and showed up, and chaos ensued.
More outrage because the office hours were supposed to be 9a-4p, but they closed the doors early due to the crowd getting out of control and security being unable to control them.

Who has time to sit in that line all day if you have a job? It was on a Sunday, so they did not have to be at work, and neither did the people who they thought they were going to go see. Which makes it just funny a heck. Doubling down on the stupid.
