Them jokers must have had a good year last year. I could make a big enough box turtle gumbo for a Methodist church potluck supper there are so many out cruising the roads today.

I had over a dozen in a pen when I was a kid and had them for years even had babies one year . Durning the winter they stayed under a huge pile of leaves and hay straw .

My mom had one that lived under their deck and she would throw out leftover salad fixings and fruit and it would come out ever day to eat just like a pet. It loved melon rinds best. Lived to be six or seven years old and she found it dead one day.

rain flooded holes. I think thee game laws say you can only have one in your possession. But its been a long time since I read the rules.

I don't think so

"Eastern Box Turtle populations in Alabama are declining so the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources considers this species “protected.” This means they cannot be kept in captivity without a permit and they are illegal to harvest from the wild."

We used to see them somewhat regularly in our yard, but haven't seen one in a number of years.

I found one the other day while mowing grass, went right over him. About the size of a silver dollar. Smallest one I ever caught. I see them move mostly on rainy mornings.

I’m surprised to hear that numbers are declining, apparently? I see them all the time.

I usually see 1 or 2 during turkey season. Haven’t seen one this year yet.

I caught two fishing last week.
