So, I dropped my taxes off this morning for my annual extension. My CPA lady is like minded as most of us.
She brought up an interesting point about the elections or farce if you will.
"what if" someone organized a mass effort to stop paying taxes due. After serious consideration if there was a concerted effort I believe that I would get on the train.
Curious what a lot of Aldeer would think about this.

Your CPA has read Ayn Rand's novel "Atlas Shrugged".
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I would prefer to stay out of federal prison. They can’t put all of us in prison.

Our state govt screws us over so they wont lose fed money. "We have to go along with it so they wont quit sending the federal money". I say we say "screw you, youre not getting any more money." Let the fed govt do without for a while. Taxation without representation is alive and well. They are using my tax money to fund sin. I have a big problem with that. We need to tell them to pound sand. Thats the kindest most christian way i can say that

Most people get paid via payroll, ie the payroll tax. No way to opt out of that that I'm aware of. You could claim so many deductions that you have next to nothing taken out.

Make sure you set back the extra money you take home and pay your taxes as late as legally possible so that there are no penalties. If enough people did this, a huge amount of money being used interest free by the beast aka the government would dry up. This would send a message.

They already spend more than they take in. If taxpayers revolted and refused to pay, they’d just have a bigger deficit. Then they would pass legislation to lock us all up and seize our assets, paid for by more deficit spending. Refusing to pay won’t stop the spending problem we currently have. And it won’t stop the eventual collapse of the dollar. Once the dollar collapses, the entitlement checks stop coming, and the average citizen realizes all they worked for just went up in smoke because the elites stole it all, that’s when the chit hits the fan. By my estimation we have a slim chance to avoid that SHTF scenario, and refusing to pay taxes won’t be the way that slim chance happens.

I thought about this. The NRA except fight for lowering taxes.

I have a buddy. He's a little farther out there than most of us. He's somewhat of a legal scholar among other things. He's almost like one of those Sovereign Citizen kind of guys.
He told me one day that there was this guy, (I believe in Florida) that successfully sued the county over property taxes and won. He doesn't have to pay property taxes anymore. His land is exempt now. Last time we talked he said he was going to represent himself and do the same thing. I have some egg cartons I need to return to him and a pound of Organic Ethiopian coffee beans I need to give him, so I'll ask him how that's going.
Personally on our cabin and 10 acres, my taxes are less than $500 a year so even though I'm against it, I just have better stuff to do with my time than sue the government over $500 and all the time, money and legal knowledge that would entail.
Regarding income tax...
I've managed to whittle down what money is actually getting taxed. Fortunately in Alabama the state doesn't tax pensions or Social Security.
Based on my calculations using the latest 2024 tax tables in my spreadsheet our total extrapolated tax rate in retirement will only be 8.22%, which ain't bad.
