For what you mentioned I’d find an old Remington 1100. If your outside the idea of a semi auto I’d look for a 20 gauge over and under or side by side.

X2, but for quail, dove, and skeet, I'd go 20 gauge. I don't really have any use for a 12 gauge anymore. Shotgun shells are too good to fool with shooting a kicking arse 12 gauge

If it doesn't have to be new, a 12 ga , 3" Browning Gold Stalker with 26" barrel is a great do-it-all shotgun.

Only because you didn't like the Berretta 300. If you are looking at possible used options then consider one of my all time favorites - the Beretta 390. It does it all and fits me well. You can pick up a nice used one for 600 to 750 depending on conditino.

Like the 390 and 391. They have both in 30” if you prefer a longer sight plain.

I bought a Browning Maxus several years ago for my do it all 12 gauge. It has a 26” barrel and is a 3.5” gun.

I’ve been very please from shooting clays, to the dove field, to the duck blinds. Killed some turkeys with it too.

Today, I’d probably buy an SX4 just because I don’t like the Maxus 2.

Never owned a Beretta 300; but don't dislike Beretta products. Have a Ducks Unlimited 303 20 gauge I like a lot. But, I have been shooting my H&K Montefeltro for 37 years and it has never, ever failed to cycle anything. Dirty or clean. Also have an M1 Super 90 20G I recently acquired.

The 303 is an awesome shotgun. In fact one of the shotguns I've regretted selling over the years was a 303 version of the upland special with the straight comb stock. I couldn't miss with it ( or at least that's the way I remember it lol ) The Montefeltro's are great shotguns as well. I just prefer the gas operating system on the Beretta verses the inertia block on the Benelli. It shoots a little softer to me. I have a SBE2 and have had several Motefeltro's and there are no flies on the Benelli's for sure.
