600k??? B’ham is broke. Water dept is in shambles. Sewer system stinks. Glad I left Jefferson co 38 years ago.

It's just another Democrat money grab. They could spend that money to help with blight and make the streets safer and that would provide more incentive to move to Birmingham than anything. The rainbow community has made decent efforts of revitalizing some blighted efforts of Birmingham without any city assistance. Parts of Crestline, Roebuck and even North Birmingham have made those efforts with limited success. However, there is a limited number of those people, no matter what they may proclaim. And that process is slowing down to a crawl the last year or so. We were doing 15 inspections a month for about 30 months in those areas. Another factor is those people have figured out living 3 streets down from a non revitalized area is damned dangerous.
Birmingham being run poorly is nothing new and I'm old enough to remember White mayors not doing much better than all the black mayors. It's not a color thing. It's a corruption and culture thing. Democrats will always blight a city, especially when in charge. It's just what they do.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

Ive worked inside birmingham city limits for 35 years. They would be ahead if they spent the money on proactive policing, and tearing down all the abandoned houses and commercial properties. The city owns thousands of residential lots and several hundred commercial properties.

The people looking for good rentals will be happy to know this because a lot of these will be on the market in about 5 years as foreclosures. You should see the Habitat for Humanity houses that they built several years back

Birmingham is an embarrassment. Corruption run amok for decades! I am against all government subsidies. Let the free market dictate where people want to live.
