Heard one early, pretty far away. Made a move, stripped a jacket off, get to where I need to be, and he done shut up. Plenty of hen sign around so figure he's got some ladies close that kept him happy. At least I'm hearing birds this year, improvement from the last two yrs

Prettiest morning I have hunted all year. Sunrise was beautiful. Hit 3 spots and never heard a turkey. Back to work, wish I could hunt all day.

Heard the group of 4 I hunted last Friday but they were across Mt Zion road today and I was set up on the clearcut side. They made their way away from me with hens. I had heard one on the neighbors across the clearcut so I slipped down to the ditch and he and his hens were out there hangin out. I didnt have time because of work to try and wait him out. I'll leave them alone tomorrow may try them Sunday before church or wait until one morning next week.

I heard 3 this morning, 1 real close. Grandson coming tonight to hunt the weekend. Got up and eased out, we'll go after them at daylight tomorrow. Grandson is 21 and has deer hunted with me since he sat on my knee but just really got into turkeys last year. We got him his first, a good one, last year and and double beard last Saturday. He is now ate up with it. Anyway, I killed a dandy on opening morning and since then I've been guiding him or scouting. About more fun than trying to kill one myself. I'll be 77 soon and if I kill 1, I consider it a successful season. Grandson, is a junior at UA, so it's weekends only for him. Spending time with him is special and I hope to do it as long as I can move under my own power. Not a lot of running and gunning at my age, so I'm teaching him the old school patience method

Y’all ever some something so stupid that it defies all logic??? Cause I did this morning.

I yelped one up to 20 steps this morning. He came in spitting, drumming and gobbling. He cleared a pine tree and I put the red dot on his head and squeezed the trigger. Nothing happened. No click. By the time I figured out I didn’t take the safety off he had seen enough. That was painful.

I’m usually so worried about that safety that I feel of it 10 times to make sure it’s off when I sit down to a turkey. I don’t know. Catch and release turkey hunting for me this morning.

It happens. My buddy clicked on one cause he eased the release closed to not make noise

I hav clicked on one cause i was to stupid to load it 🤣🤣 - but i cut really hard after click and jacked one in as i was cutting and he was running - he stopped to look back at 50 yards - good bird

And i hav done way dumber than that

Sorry - it sucks

Took my 5 year old son on his first hunt of the year with my Dad. Crossed our creek and got in tight to where we’d heard 3 gobbling last week. Absolutely beautiful morning. Turkeys gobbling off property to our north but nothing within a half mile of us. Thought we heard one to our south so walked back to crossing at 7 and sure enough could hear him better. He double and triple gobbled on his own as we were about to cross creek. Coursed him to be about 600 yards across a clear cut that has a pretty good draw down the middle of it but no SMZ timber left. We got as close as we could without being seen and yelped some on slates and box calls. Nothing. Then he gobbled on his own again but due to hill and sound echo I couldn’t tell if he’d moved away or cut distance in half. Called a little more and nothing happened for 20 minutes. Had kind of given up hope when dad popped in his old mouth yelper and let loose a rough, raspy yelp. As I was turning to tell him that sounded bad and he should put that one back on his vest and I’ll be danged if the turkey didn’t gobble just over the hill. 5 minutes and a couple yelps later and the turkey came over the hill with one more gobble as he stood at 60 yards. Thought we were done for because as soon as he topped the hill little man started moving his feet. An inch worm was crawling down his pants headed for his boot. I told him to forget the worm we had a turkey to kill! He sat stone still as the turkey moved to 35 yards and I let ole reliable do her work just before 8 am. I’m a very proud dad today for how still he was as the turkey walked those last 25 yards looking hard. Beau was with me when I killed one last year when he was 4 but he was asleep in my lap. Goal for this year was to kill one while he was awake.

Didn't hear a single gobble.

Standing in the woods at 0610 listening. Deer walks up and has a staring contest with me for 30 seconds then runs off making a bunch of racket. 2 minutes later I hear purring a clucking to my my immediate left and I try to crouch and sit down and off fly 3 birds. Damn things were on the ground before sunrise. Weird birds.

Congrats PCP, I had two jakes and a long beard gobbling good in the tree hit the ground and I made 3 yelps and two hammer back put call down and wait, 4 gobbles and they are close, I had built a ground blind for this spot last week but didn't get in it because it faces north and the birds were south. they walked all over my blind but just under a rise and I couldn't see them and they eased off, made another blind in same spot facing south for in the morning but I no how it works, birds will be in a different county.

Well I figured something out today. I’m dealing with a band of super Jake brothers. I set up under one in the dark today. I was 15 yards from his tree. I watched him gobble like a full grown bird for 15 minutes. You’d never know he was a Jake with a 4” beard. He pitched out, landed 70 yards away and went into a strut and drummed for 30 minutes. 3 more joined him and hens. They’ve run my mature birds out of this area or at least shut them down. Pretty frustrating.
This is what I’m dealing with:
