So ive always just used the strikers i received with the call I purchased, but reading post on here its got me wanting to purchase some custom strikers to fine tune my calls. Ive looked at the JLH, Derrick Stuckey, and Bill Lyman strikers, Bill said he no longer makes them so Im leaning Derrick since he is an Alabama boy. That being said Ive got 2 main calls I carry (houndstooth glass and custom aluminum) as well as a slate coming from stony in the near future. I'm looking at a hickory for the slate then for the glass and aluminum i have been looking at the katalox, grandillo, or dogwood. Does any body have experience with these strikers with any of there style pots?

From Derrick I have many, but Katalox and Cumari and snakewood I never leave home without. They run great on almost everything. From JLH i have several… canary and frogwood as well as Mahoe. Both men make superb strikers. For my personal sound preferences the ones listed are good to go.

JLH frogwood and canary are solid choices.

Definitely get a JLH Frogwood and a heavy hickory. The frogwood runs really good on just about any call. JLH makes great strikers and are easy to get.

He does make a beautiful striker. I agree you need a frog wood or ivory for the aluminum. I have a custom aluminum and the best I’ve heard on it was a pink ivory. They need a little bit hard striker. My favorite on a houndstooth glass or Stony’s glass is a tulipwood

I highly recommend Jeff Harrison JLH strikers. I own a pile of them and use his exclusively. As some noted the Frogwood is some count on almost all pot call surfaces. I also really like his carbon on slate! I also recently read it runs well on aluminum. I will have to check that out as I have a stoned aluminum pot that goes in the woods with me every time I go.
