Pretty sure I’m done fooling with selling used stuff to the general public. I may change my mind later on but I doubt it. Last December…4 MONTHS AGO, I sold an electrical motor, that was actually brand new, never used, sealed in the box, for half of what I paid for it. I had intended to ship it back to where I bought it from but let the return period expire before I got around to it. Met up with the buyer, made the transaction, no problem. Tonight, he texted me that he “finally got around to opening it up” and sends me a text that a couple of the bolt holes aren’t lining up as he is trying to put it together. He didn’t say what he wanted me to do about it but I’m guessing he wanted his money back. We’re only talking about $50.00. He never opened the box when he bought it, to check it out. Heck, I had never opened the box myself. Honestly, had the guy opened it a week or so after he bought it, I would have given him his money back if there is actually a problem. But 4 months later?? How do I know he just isn’t a moron and doesn’t know what he’s doing? He may be putting it together wrong. How do I know he hasn’t taken the motor I sold him out of the box and put something else in there on its place? He even told me it’s rode around in his truck seat for the last 4 months. Selling stuff with that low of a value just isn’t worth it anymore. I’d rather throw it away to keep from dealing with the hassle of fooling with people.

Sometimes a pawn shop is useful for clearing out stuff. You get rid it of it quick and you get some cash, not as much as you could have but at least you didnt have to deal with crap.

Ford, just tell everyone who buys from you that everything comes with a 5/50 warranty. 5 minutes, or 50 feet. Whichever comes first.

“Well, I hate that but I’m sure you’ll have no problems selling it “

I never gave it much thought until trying my hand at a side business but retail customers are not easy to deal with.

I put stuff on the end of my driveway. I have never had it not disappear. It's easier than trying to sell on marketplace. or elsewhere.

I've become the same way. The less I have to do with people in general the more settled my life is. I've found its simply easier to just give stuff away than deal with selling it. There is a halfway house for abused women close by and they are very good about picking stuff up. What isn't used by them is sold at yard sales they have a few times a year.

I can’t tell you how many times I sell boots from the shop and guys come back 6 months later. Man. I just started wearing these boots. Just took them out of the box. You mean to tell me you’ve had those boots for 6 months and ain’t wore them. and there falling apart. Sorry. You have to take that up with the company of the boots. It’s out of my return policy. Sometimes it looks like they been worn every second since purchase and sometime they do look like they were just put on. Just can’t understand sometimes.
I wouldn’t even reply. Send back who is this ? Like you changed your number. 😂

Sounds like an idiot.

Well obviously you have his phone number so:
Go on Marketplace and make him an ad for “free chickens” or “free goats”.

I hate to throw stuff away more than I hate dealing with people like that. I sold a 4 wheeler one time and the guy cranked it in the yard but didn’t drive it. He called me a couple hours later and said he drove it down the road when he got it home and the rear ended was bad out of alignment. I told him it was fine when he left the house with it, but if he would bring it back immediately I would give him his money back. Once I told him that he knew I wasn’t trying to sell a junk 4 wheeler and said he would try to see what happened. He called me back the next day to tell me he found a bolt that had come out of a swing arm and he put it back and it was fine.

I sold a little 4 banger, 5 speed, base model Ford Ranger once, that was 7-8 years old when I sold it. It had well over 100k miles due to my long commute. Hence the reason I originally bought it. A full YEAR after the guy bought it, he contacted me to tell me the clutch went out. I was more hot tempered then and gave him an ear full.
