I hunted Fred T Stimpson this weekend and fox needs to work on getting some more turkeys on that place. I think they trapped too many😂

Finally watched. Very interesting part for me - is the fact that Fox received 10 hens first week of February (I’m assuming from Stimpson sanctuary?). No adult male. In a place that had a non-huntable population of birds. He said he counted 85 poults by Fall.

Now - you DGT disciples, the guys that holler late breeding - April breeding, the guys that think an area needs multiple gobblers alive as long as possible in the Spring - y’all got an explanation on how that happened? Gosh dang mystery we got here.

Research indicates turkeys can lay fertile eggs without ever coming into contact with a male. Additionally, research indicates the eggs are almost always males when this occurs. It’s called parthenogenesis.

They had plenty of contact with males where they came from in January.

I'm not disputing that, or that they found one of the very few gobblers in the area. Just another plausible explanation by science thumbup

I’m with you. The point - this kind of stuff demolishes DGT and the need to keep pushing seasons later in the Spring.

Naw, they just lucky they found the only dominant gobbler that really existed but had been hiding in the area. laugh

Agreed. I subscribe to Craig Harper's theory that nesting and poult habitat plays a much bigger role than the supposed issue of hens having time to be bred.

I’ve seen people mention that before but I didn’t realize they would do it consistently enough to restock an area with just hens and expect good results.
