Does anyone own a recteq pellet grill? If so what are your likes/dislikes?

I do. Not many reasons that I don't like it. I love it. Their customer service is very good too. Didn't have anything broken, just had to talk to them. The only thing I do not like about it, is that I can't grill on it. Catches on fire when temp get's up over 400 degrees.

All of this except we use ours to grill more than we smoke with it. I set it to 485 and it behaves about like an egg at 400 or a Weber kettle. A recent disappointment is that the app won’t turn the grill on anymore. Used to be able to do that and I miss it. Guess the idiots and their lawyers finally ruined it.

You might be doing this so apologies if so…

Pellet grills are finicky for high temps. You gotta keep it clean, especially if you have a few long smokes on it before you grill.

Lots of grease and pellet dust equals bad flare ups. I shop vac mine clean after every other smoke. The other solution, buy a Webber kettle and use it to grill on and nix the pellets for that part.

Yep, they always do. Lawyer in town, here, is the reason why we have safety nozzles on gas cans. Young’un being dumb (unsupervised) trying to start a burn pile when he shouldn’t have.

experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

I agree with this. I empty the fire pot every 5-6 cooks and always after a long smoke. I also clean off the drip pan at the same time. I used to vacuum the whole thing but for the last six months or so I’ve been letting the ash stay in the bottom half of the grill. It did seem to help this winter.

Same here with mine. I've got an egg to grill on but for smoking it is so much easier.

Love my 590. Keep it clean and it won’t catch fire. My heat deflector developed a small crack and they assured me it wouldn’t affect the way it cooked but sent me a new one anyway. Top notch customer service. 👍

Really like mine but they did screw it up with the latest app update by disabling the remote start. I could be at the store and pick out a steak and start the grill so it would be ready when I got home.

I've got the 720 and love it. Pretty much leave it set on 400 for cooking steaks, chicken, pork chops. So easy to use. Heck, half the time when I get home my wife has already put everything on the grill and has it ready

I have the 590. I can assure you that mine not being clean is what's causing the fire. I've had it for 18 months and I've never fully cleaned it. Not once. So it's me issue, not a them issue. I already suspected that to be the case, I should have cleaned it before posting this.

It's a fine piece of machinery. I love cooking with it. Great flavor and plenty of smoke for me. My favorite dish so far is a Boston Butt. I've got some numbers tweaked to my liking, but it's real hard to ruin a butt, so it's a good first smoke dish.
