I snore because I’ve gained weight. I’ve not done anything to fix it. BUT I’ve read about two things. Mouth tape or a mouth appliance that keeps your jaw forward and helps prevent your tongue falling and partially blocking your airway.

I use the tape. So far it’s eliminated my snoring and helped me sleep much better.

I'm afraid to have this discussion with my wife. How do I start a conversation with, "honey, I think it would help our marraige if you would just tape your mouth shut." " I mean, it is just at night, Umm, at least to start. " 😄

The mouth tape I’ve heard good things about is called “hostage tape”

Plain and simple answer, get you a sleep study and let the Dr Rx you a cpap machine. Been there ,did that. At the study I was having 40 episodes an hour. You'll be wired up like Frankenstein at your test btw. And it took my 2 or 3 different style masks to get the one that was most comfortable for me to sleep in. I'll say it'll take you 2 to 3 weeks to get comfortable with wearing your mask. The cpap place should work with you to find the one that works best for you but ask them anyway about if the first one or two doesn't make you comfortable. Mine is a Philips Dream station. I've been on it for 5 or 6 years now and can't sleep without it. I have severe apnea.
As others have mentioned, apnea is bad on our heart. Please get er done and report back on how it went for you. I think it'll be one of the best decisions that you can make and you will really feel better rested the next day. Before mine, I was exhausted the next day from lack of sleep the previous night.
I wish you all the best !!!

Weight loss is almost always a good thing but I know many skinny older and some young people that are skinny and that have sleep apnea.

Doc...

They now have a surgical implant called aspire for those who cannot tolerate CPAP, I am sure there are also pros and cons so u may want to do some research.

90% of people that snore have sleep apnea and need a CPAC machine. It’s a heart issue as well, not just a snoring thing!

I started snoring badly and went to the sleep study and have had the cpap, for about 5 years. Took 6 months to really get use to it and not ripping it off during the night panicking. Perfect now.

I disagree with this. You can snore and not have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is where you STOP breathing. You can have sleep apnea and will snore. You can snore and not have sleep apnea. AND I’d like to see the statistics and evidence of 90%. It very well may be but I’d have trouble believing that.

OSA - Sleep Apnea numbers in relation to snoreing is between 70 to 95% of patients so saying 90% is not very far off.

Snoring is common in the general population, with up to 25% of women and 45% of men reporting habitual snoring. It is the most common symptom of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), occurring in 70% to 95% of patients. However, snoring is often a predictor of OSA because of the high prevalence of snoring in the general population. Contrary to non-apneic snoring, OSA is closely associated with a number of serious illnesses, including arterial hypertension, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and metabolic syndrome. Not all snorers have apnea, but the two often go hand-in-hand. As snoring gets louder, chances of having sleep apnea are greater and greater. If you have apnea, your bed partner might notice that the snores are punctuated by pauses in breathing. Those are apnea episodes, and they can recur hundreds of times a night.

One of many studies can be found here if you want to read more: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2952752/#:~:text=Snoring%20is%20common%20in%20the,of%20men%20reporting%20habitual%20snoring.&text=It%20is%20the%20most%20common,%25%20to%2095%25%20of%20patients.

Y’all ever think you have tossed and turned all night to wake to find your side of the bed just had to be folded up to make the bed.

You can snore and not have it, but 90% do, just saying. If you wake yourself up snoring, then 100%

I’ll bet your O2 is dropping down below 88%.

And what would lead you to bet on that?

Because that is my job. But go ahead and gamble with your life, I can’t teach grown folks anything and I really don’t care because I’m tired of trying to teach “Grown Folks “anything. You know Rn’s know nothing.
