What do I need to change on these houses? They seem interested in them but none are using it.

I am not Fur, but we have had martins for over 50 years. We always had better success with homegrown gourds than with the houses. We even put up cedar posts and ran a strand of barbed wire from one to the other nailed to the top of the post. We would put gourds just far enough apart so they would not bump into each other. I remember walking down the line of gourds and looking into the gourds to see the baby birds. They could not be over 5 1/2 foot from the ground. We always painted our gourds white and drilled holes in the bottom for drainage. It worked for us and we had hundreds every year. My father loved the Martins and the damage they did to the mosquitos at the farms.

Daddy even told folks he had to order mosquitos from several companies to feed his martins because they caught all the ones we had up. There were a lot of folks that believed him on this. We planted gourd seeds down our fence lines and the cows never bothered the vines. I guess it was the taste but we never had trouble with the cows eating them. We would sell them for a dollar each and we sold out every year. This was over 40 years ago.

I can't stand a thief.

Try hanging gourds on the 4 corners. They will use the house. Like above I’ve had better luck with gourds.

How big are the compartments? Small compartments cause martins to be susceptible to predators. I have had martins for years and an excellent site for information to help attract and keep martins is: https://www.purplemartin.org/

Here is info on their housing: https://www.purplemartin.org/purple-martins/housing-standards/60/choosing-purple-martin-housing/

If you can get it right soon, you still have time to attract and have breeding pairs to start your colony this spring.

I had one like that, martins never came to it. ( Maybe mine was too close to the trees). Blue birds ended up using it

There’s tons of martins around there and a bunch have visited them. As soon as I put several up there were birds checking them out.
