I know everything has gone up in price across the board but the price of clothes is ridiculous. I got roped into going clothes shopping with the wife for my boys, for Easter. It’s was raining and we are out of town so there wasn’t much else to do and it seemed like a good time to get it done. Stopped in the local mall and went into a regular ole department store. Nothing extravagant. Looking for khaki pants and polo style shirts. The cheapest shirt I saw was $106.00. The most expensive was $176.00. I see now why old men wear clothes that are out of style. They’re smart enough not to pay those stupid high prices.

Edited to add: Needless to say, shirts were NOT bought. grin

Theres places you can go get the same clothes for 25% of that. Some people feel like its a status symbol to pay the highest price possible. Those stores are making a good living off of dumb people.

My wife decided I needed a couple of new “decent” shirts this weekend so we went to the Pants Store in Tuscaloosa. Got a couple for $80ea. I nearly had a stroke. I didn’t believe her when she told me that “wasn’t too bad” so she showed me the ones that were $100+. And some of the button-downs were $150+.

I wear Khakis and Polos to work every day... Finding a pair of cheap khakis is a task.... finding some that fit the way you want and cheap..... comical...

I order clothes from over seas to sell. My cost has not went up more than a couple dollars per at most.
Shipping a few years ago was the issue but is reasonable again. Companies move there price up and when shipping went down they left price up cause people pay it. Lot easier to go down than up.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

My phone screen does not always work right, usually a lot of misspelled words....

I was just looking for a pair of pants in bottomland camo yesterday. It's absurd what these people think their pants are worth. I went on ebay and got a USED pair for $45 and thought that was a steal in comparison.

I’ve heard about Rural King for years but had never stepped foot in one. A few months ago, I decided to go to the one in Huntsville to pick up several gallons of bar oil. I figured I’d look around for long sleeve dungaree shirts too. I couldn’t believe what they were asking for their clothes in general. Matter of fact, I didn’t see what the hype about that place is period. This whole inflation thing has just been a real good excuse to raise prices on everything and stick it to us. Everywhere. Funny how I haven’t heard about anyone’s pay getting “inflated” at the same pace.

Clothes: Jos. A. Bank (dress clothes), Charles Tyrwhitt (dress shirts), Nordstrom Rack (so I hear), TJ Maxx, Costco, Academy Sports, Amazon, Zappos, etc. Who buys clothes at department stores anymore?

If there's a particular brand/style you are looking for, buy it when it's on sale. I wear Banana Republic khakis because I know they fit right on me, but I don't buy them when they aren't on sale. And they're on sale probably half the time. And they last forever, so it's not like I'm buying new every year.

Although I am the same person who has clothes in the closet from 30 years ago that I still wear. Heck, wait long enough, and it comes back in style (like dad jeans).

And, while I'm particular about many things (tools, guns, fishing reels, knives, tires--things that matter, in other words), I'm not that particular about the brand of clothes that I wear. From a foot or more away, no one can tell whether I paid $20 for a shirt or $100 for a shirt.

Tractor supply blue mtn khaki pants are $12 and they're great (at least for me) for work pants. What i've found the last year is bargain hunt has some good clothes deals. I've gotten name brand jeans for $17 and nice dress shirts for $14. Not to mention them evil energy drinks for $.79/ea wink

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

No kidding. Was just in one of those big box sports stores and all their clothing was name brand and pants and shirts started at $70! And Up! Friggin insane what some people will pay for this crap. Found some that were similar material and fit but not the big sports brand for half the price at another store and bought them. The cheap ones even fit better! Some people are idiots.

Contrary to what the Democrats and their media outlets are telling us, the inflation is real and it is severe.

Go read what "countryjwh" said above. I believe that retailers are doing this everywhere. They are keeping prices high or where we were during Covid when shipping went through the roof.

Is inflation calculated at the retail level or the wholesale level... I really don't know.

I bought a pair of handmade denim pants for $200 4 years ago and I would buy another one in a heartbeat. They just fit that good.

I looked at the bar oil you’re talking about. The stuff I got (CAM2 all-season) from RK was cheaper and has really good reviews. Finally got tired of Stihl’s price. I hope it’s as good as they say because I bought 10 gallons.
