After a long fight for a loan from the Alabama legislature, Birmingham-Southern College announced Tuesday that it will close its doors on May 31. “The Board of Trustees voted unanimously today to close the College after a 2024 bill designed to amend the 2023 legislation that established the loan program on which our future depended failed to win sufficient support in the Alabama House of Representatives. Without that funding, the College does not have the resources to continue,” a letter from the Rev. Keith D. Thompson ‘83 Chair, BSC Board of Trustees, states. Closing

Now the real corruption begins. Its going to be interesting to see who acquires that property and what they decide to do with it. If another college doesn't buy it, which I can see UAB getting it, then it will become part of the K-12 system.

Be a good way for Auburn to get a foothold in Central-North Alabama. Why would the Birminham school system want it? They can't fill up the classrooms they've got.

It would be a great opportunity for Auburn to open a law school. Jimmy Rane has wanted to do this for some time. Tried to get the board to buy Jones School of Law in Montgomery a few years ago.

Once the dust clears im sure UAB will snatch it up with its facility and as close as it is.

I’ve bid work there on building upgrades/repairs several times over the years and have spoken with maintenance guys on the financial issues of the school several times. I don’t see how they stayed afloat as long as they did. As of a few months ago, from what I was told by an employee there, they had just over 600 students. My boys have over 400 kids in their high school sophomore class alone and don’t even go to that big of a high school. How could they possibly pay for themselves with that few of students? It’s also in an absolute crap hole of a location. That big wrought iron gate definitely isn’t for decoration.

Its just what happens in bruminham... Unfortunantly my daughter has to go through that area to get to Princeton every day. “That area” is where Princeton is. Bless her heart, it’s a crap hope all around there. I hope she carries.

I was there about ten years ago when Dinesh D'Souza spoke. That campus is infested with Liberal students.

I definitely was not the norm there lol. Me and my roommate have em hell though. Use to blow our duck calls at night everyone in dorm would be calling security. Good times 😊👍
