Friends lives near one and has said he was concerned about the heavy metals leaving form the panels. Never mentioned hail damage causing the problem. Also the way the land lays out it would drain into the river system.

Dayum... That is some serious damage.
Every form of energy has its drawbacks I guess. Yup no one form of production is w/o fault. Like an investment portfolio our grid should be very diversified

The real fun part is cleaning that crap up while still being in compliance with FERC and EPA. Hail storms are figured into the equation when they put those together. Tornado's turn those things into pure nightmares of swirling glass shards and metal. One company I worked for was expanding their operation in Georgia. A tornado went through the existing solar farm right next to where I was at just about a week before. The pine's where I was at looked like decorated Christmas trees they had so much glass and metal stuck in them.

That's OK , the tax payers will replace them.

That's OK , the tax payers will replace them. In most cases, they already have. Storm damage to solar farms is figured into the base cost and anything above that is on their insurance (which consumers pay for on top of taxes). Now if there is an official disaster deceleration from the state or Fed, then the cost to the taxpayer goes up.

Also the way the land lays out it would drain into the river system. If youre concerned about heavymetals getting into the river system, i have a petition you need to sign.
