News had a story about a guy fishing Guntersville. Not only did he catch a albino catfish and a record paddlefish but also caught a sturgeon. I have heard of sturgeon in the Tennessee River but this is the first time I can recall someone catching one.

Sturgeon were native to the river. A reintroduction program has been going on in Tennessee for a few years.

Have heard of paddlefish in Wilson below the dam but not in Guntersville. Pretty cool.

I heard about this……

One of my grandfathers always said he wanted to catch a sturgeon according to family. He did at Guntersviile but didn't know what it was and left it. He died before I was born so I never got to know him.

My coworker remembers as a child, he and his Grandfather going below G Dam and snagging them during the spawn. I have only seen one since I moved here 9 years ago.

I've never caught a sturgeon but I have seen several dead ones floating on the water on Wheeler below the Guntersville Dam.

Boys if it swims old Aron Tucker (in the article) and his daddy have caught it. Raford taught Aron a lot before he died and I know they been fishing this end of the river over 50 years.

I saw an old picture of one that a guy caught out of the cahaba river and it took a horse to pull it onto the bank.
