Yes. Part of the new West Alabama Highway project. There will be 4 lane from Mobile to Tuscaloosa when it is complete. Yup. And the town of Linden along with others will have to figure out how to divert traffic into their towns or shrink and possibly die.

Someone already knew it was coming and probably owned a lot of the land it’s running through.

Well. They should have four lanes 82 from Prattville to Tuscaloosa. How will the west Alabama highway affect all the small towns like Linden? I'm sure there will be a little effect, but to be honest, there really isn't much of anything in Linden to stop for. There's a Jack's, and a gas station or two...that's about it. A grocery store, but no travelers are stopping to go to a small grocery store on their way. Came through Linden in the rain yesterday. Just not much there. Very much a "locals" town. Kinda like when they bypassed Grove Hill years ago. Now, if they were to bypass somewhere like Thomasville....that would hurt the townfolk there.

Someone already knew it was coming and probably owned a lot of the land it’s running through. Thats usually the case. Its hard to hide it when ALDOT is coming around surveying and buying up land. I've been run-off of properties where I was going to survey for ALDOT and the property owner and ALDOT had not finalized things before I was turned loose to work.

Jack's is the only thing in Linden now days the Corner store was sold out to the rag heads and they open when they feel like it the locally owned shell station is the only place I stop for fuel and a biscuit on the way to work. Linden has been drying up for years I don't see this effecting it much really the still have the courthouse tho.

But heck, maybe it will make Linden more accessible to larger businesses and they will grow. I bet lease prices go up in the area.

How will the west Alabama highway affect all the small towns like Linden? It will bypass Demopolis as well. Demopolis probably stands the most to lose but all of these towns will have to adapt to it or suffer...Spread towards the bypass and use it as a catalyst for growth where possible.

I work in the area often. At one time, Linden had one of the biggest powerhouses in the APSA with Marengo Academy. It closed in 2019.

We were in a theater to see the animated movie Cars. At the end when the highway was bypassing the town, she was all teared up. I’m like why are you crying ? She said nobody will come through there anymore. I said “Hell we live in Grove Hill, you’re living it now”
"Cull" is just another four letter word...
