You know, I used to love those too. Don't think I've seen one like that in a long time. Are there current models that have the lava rock or are you just adding it to one?

My Lynx Sedona has ceramic briquettes on 2 of the burners; the other is an infrared that go's to 1500 degrees. It will sear a nice steak. I love my BGE; but don't mind doing a steak on my gas grill at all. It's really not on there long enough to take on much charcoal/smoke flavor. Quality of the meat is most important on a steak.

Gotta have both, if not you have to turn in your man card, and start baking!

My PK grill is for chicken and smoking a butt. Other than that pretty much everything I cook is on my Blackstone. If I could only have one, it would be the Blackstone.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I just buy a bag or two and fill the bottom up to the burners, makes the grill bottom last forever too. Doesn’t stay wet and rust out.

I haven't looked but there has got to be a half and half grill/griddle on the market.

Weber makes a drop in for some of their gas grill models where you can go between flat top and grates. Most of them will be a grill with a little useless griddle off to the side.

I have a Webber charcoal at the house and one at my camp house. My grandfather gave me his Blackstone and I have used it twice. I hate the clean up process and I don't see the point of needing a whole other grill just because I want to put a sear on a hamburger. I can do that in the kitchen cast iron. Breakfast I can cook inside too.

But I am just not cooking for large gatherings very often. If I was I can see the need.

I wouldn't have another gas grill.
Grease drippings ruin them quickly.
I've had my griddle for 6 years ish now and the burners look like a 3 month old gas grill.

Not to mention the number of things that a griddle will cook that a grated grill will not.
