I lost my final grandparent early yesterday morning. He lived until he was 105, and was sharp as a tack until recently. I was blessed with 4 wonderful grandparents, each quite different than the other, but all loved their spouses and children immensely. We got to see my dad’s dad one last time in August after a Braves game. My mom and dad got the call a couple days ago that they needed to head that way soon and they were able to see him before he passed. There are so many stories we could share. Here’s a quick one: His brother-in-law worked for Walt Disney and helped with the filming of Old Yeller. We have one of his cameras at my granddad’s house (story for another day). That said, apparently NASA would hire Disney’s film crew back in the day for their launches. The brother-in-law was able to befriend some of the astronauts. My grandfather was a stamp collector and got his hands on some envelopes that had some type of Apollo graphics on them. The brother-in-law was able to get those envelopes smuggled onto the rocket, orbited the moon, and then made it back home to my grandfather. I hope we can find those in his belongings, just to be able to pass down that story. Still waiting for details on the funeral, etc. It was the first big loss for my son Hayden. Told him after his ball game last night. I was more emotional than I expected, but gathered myself enough to remind him how blessed he was to have had a great grandparent in his life for 14 years.

Prayers for your loss. 105 is more than double where I'm at. I can't imagine the things he saw.

Very sorry for your loss - I've always loved listening to elderly folks telling stories about their experiences and the things they have seen. Based on your post - I know he was a wonderful man and will be missed greatly by you and your family. God bless you guys during this difficult time.
