Thanks for posting! Just confirms what I learned in 8th grade Ag class in 1968 - legal spring gobbler hunting has no effect on the overall turkey population. Hard to believe that there was once a time when everyone knew this.

Shocking results. I'm sure they'll give us those first 10 days back right?

Screw em all. I emailed everyone of em saying if I made decisions based on theories in my line of work it would kill people…emailed everyone of em before they made the decision to push it back. They can pound sand for all I care and piss on chuck Sykes and crew. Fire em all

It’s political plain and simple.

That’s Straight from the mouth of one of the biologists I spoke with.

It isn’t about biological facts, any decisions based on bad information generally produce bad outcomes.

It’s about compliance and politics.

If they wanted to benefit the population they would actually make decisions based upon facts and proven data not a flawed, unproven and ridiculous dominant gobbler theory.

Anyone with half a brain predicted what the results of the study were going to be. Now, we get to see what happens regarding TN’s changes in season framework. 😡😡😡

Be careful guys. I know it is what you want to hear (and I believe it is probably true), but all you've seen is an abstract.

That's just the TN study. The MS study had already reached the same conclusion. I have heard that Chamberlain's own study in GA also had the same results, though it doesn't seem to be publicized.

The whole idea defies common sense and everything that has been known about wild turkeys for centuries. A single gobbler can breed a whole bunch of hens. In fact, he can breed a whole bunch of hens in a single day. If turkey populations are going down in an area, it's extremely unlikely that the cause is the lack of a gobbler to breed the hens.

Oh, I agree with you. I just am cautioning because some of the studies that get published have terrible methods. Case in point was chamberlain's own that looked at gobbling in south carolina (if I recall correctly). I think that study kicked off this whole mess and his study design and sample size was lacking IMO.

This part of south Montgomery county has always had a substantial amount of turkeys. Overall, the population has probably declined, but only because the habitat has changed. Areas of good turkey habitat have as many or more turkeys than there's been in the last 35 or so years I've been hunting the area. It is all about the habitat and throw in predator effect
