He basically said "F them kids"
Kids don't care about development and integrity anymore. It's all about fame and money. The "development" and value he references is the billions of dollars in NFL contracts many Bama players have been able to secure.

He is Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo full of chit.
Dude made MILLIONs of the backs of these kids. Now that they have open competition he runs like a limp wristed bitch. Take your ass to high school and coach Nick. Go be pure, far away from the under the table payments of the REC.
Seriously. I had started to respect him (truth), but this makes me realize what a scum bag he always was.
This is what you took away from this article? I really just thought you were a troll, but you really are legally retarded. . Trust me, this is not for Alabama’s sake. I truly believe you think that, but it’s not. He said he’s not against NIL. He didn’t miss a beat when it was enacted. Trust me, the Auburn’s of the world will benefit more for what he’s asking them to legislate than the Alabama’s. Your UAB football team will cease to exist. I guarantee if this was Tubbs on the stand, you would be telling what a noble cause this was, and I’d be right there with you. If you can’t see how this unregulated approach is shaping out, and how it will ruin much of college athletics, then I don’t know if you’ll ever get it. For anything to function properly, there has to be some resemblance of rules and parameters. You stated Saban made millions off these kids backs. True, every coach does. Every University does. Have you ever thought about how much value he’s created for a large portion of his players? I’m not talking just NFL revenue either. The number would be astonishing. You may be singing a different tune when the Cam Coleman’s of the world decide to take a pay hike and go to Georgia, Bama, TN, FSU in 2025-26. He’s going to go to the highest bidder. He will not finish at Auburn. Book it! I think that’s a travesty, but you’re all for it, so be it. One of my favorite takes: “if this was blah blah blah you would have a different opinion” No. The game has changed. It needs guard rails for NIL and mainly for the portal IMO. The NIL genie is not going back in the bottle. Again, Saban sits there saying “I can’t do what I’ve done for the last 50 years”. Complete bullshot. His value? It’s was getting kids to the NFL. He could STILL be doing that if he wanted. Oh, and the Auburn NIL program is just fine. I would say the most robust in the state… Saban didn't have a problem as long as he was gobbling up every 5 star accross the nation!

Idk who thinks giving 18-21 year old men massive sums of money is a good idea, but I can't wait to watch it play out in reality. This!

Not sure if you were paying attention but he was still doing that.

The "development" and value he references is the billions of dollars in NFL contracts many Bama players have been able to secure. I would venture a guess (a strong ass one) that every player that made the NFL from bama would have made it from any power 5 school. Better player in, better player out. Saban was a master at evaluation, that much is undeniable. He had certain aspects that he looked for and that was rooted in his time in the NFL.

It is a bad look for Saban. Comes across as a rules for thee and not for me kind of guy. He jumped ships for $$$ his whole career and wasnt truthful about it ever. Now, he plays it as he was always there for the kids. I think he is full of crap.
Simple fact is he was always wanted the best job with the most money for him. As soon as the system changed and his rule was threatened he acts like it is all about kids. Barf. There are lots of DIII jobs out there where kids are working their butts off for the love of the game. He could have always gone there or anyplace other than a Top 10 program "for the kids."
Boom. Nailed it.

I'm sure money had some influence over the decisions, but you can't minimize the support and resources a school like Bama provides vs a DIII school. Weight rooms, nutrition programs, sports medicine, practice facilities, etc.

You know Texas threw that oil money at him and he said thanks, but no thanks, correct? You do know he has retired and no longer head coach, right? Why even care about the rules now? He’s got no skin in the game. He was asked if he would do this by many of his ex colleagues and Universities. There is not a better Ambassador to tackle the issue than Saban. He himself benefits in no shape or form. He was doing just fine as it was. I can promise you there is no college coach that likes the unregulated rules of modern college football. That goes for the Rev Hugh “ it hurts to pee” Hooka Freeze as well.

These guys egos are so high they have lost any ability for self reflection. I'm sure all these schools and big time coaches hate the NIL money because they dont control it. Reality is they wont do anything that would help the kids because they are swimming in money. Same thing with education. Those in piwer wont fix the system because doing so would kill their golden goose (and expose them as frauds).

I was just playing around. 😀 If only baseball would be throwing around big bucks. I thought of you this last week. My wife was in Martin for our niece's dance competition last weekend. She stayed at Pecan Grove Cottages and said it was nice and handy to the university (not cheap). Heads up if you are going that way.

Yeah, REAL CFB is. Now we have a semi-pro league. I used to get overly excited on Saturdays. But I now no longer don't give a damn. 20 something year-old democrats will not guide my happiness. I have no allegiance to any team. I'll just watch for a good game now and then.
