I've avoided cell cameras for some time now. Because of that, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to them.

I'm now considering running a couple out of state. Those of you that use them out of state, tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly concerning brands, service, price, and reliability.

Thanks!!

I used to be a Browning fanboy.. Purchased a dozen of their cell cams three years ago and now I am down to only four working. And two of those were sent in early on to be warrantied. So basically I have had an 83% failure rate with the Browning Strikeforce Cell cams. My buddy claims that I get my use out of them. Typically run my cams 7-8mo. out of the year and avg. 25k-30k pics or so a month. I still think they should last longer than they have.

Tried Ridgetecs. They devour batteries and the app sucks. The do take a pretty picture though. These sit in my shed and only get used if I run out of options.

I have spypoint cameras and they are cheap, but if I was a long distance I'd want a better set. I'd probably go with reveal because the picture quality is better and I hear they are easy to maintain.

Go to www.trailcampro.com

Look at the reviews. They'll tell you the good the bad and the ugly of all the cameras.

Can you use a solar panel on a Moultrie with regular batteries or do you have to have rechargeable batteries

I have 10 Reveal tacta cams running in Ky. Use solar panels on all. Been great on reliability. Probably 170.00 invested in cam and panel. 12.00/ month no limit on pics taken.

If out of state or any long distance make sure you hook it up to a herd 360 solar charger. You will save yourself a ton of time and money.

I don't use solar on any of mine. Too much attention and the cams take a walk. I've luckily never had one stolen but, all of mine are at a higher than normal elevation. If ya not over bait, todays cams last forever on a set of batteries.

If you use cell cams, carry and add a regular camera to the set. Some cell signals get sketchy and kill the cam trying to send pics. It's also a way to possibly catch a thief/animal that the other cam misses. It also gives a better look at travel patterns.
I took 9 cell cams to Idaho last year, came home with 6 of them due to no signal. It was fun checking the normal cams I left though. This year, I'll take 10 cell cams probably and at least a dozen normal cams to NE Washington to capture whitetails.

I've had really good luck with the Moultrie Mobile Edge and the Spypoint Flex G36 .......both out of state. I had written both companies off a couple years ago but tried these cameras last year and both did well. Both have the buck recognition and some other app features which work surprisingly well. Had no issues with battery life either. I probably like the Moultrie better except they don't have SD cards....they tout that as an advantage but I've never really had too many issues caused by SD cards and by not having sd cards you are forced to keep a monthly plan in place if you want to see the pics (granted, if it's out of state, that's fine, but I want to be able to run mine around AL also and not pay for a plan in the off months). Tactacam/Reveal is ok, but sometimes the pic clarity is not good and their app isn't nearly as good imo (no buck recognition, which can save you tons of time if you are on a bait site and get dozens/hundreds of pics a day)

I'm still getting pics from Kentucky on the batteries from the Wildgame Terras I put out in early November.

I wouldn't waste my money. They are going to be made illegal soon judging from some general comments both here and on forums elsewhere

I'm in Florida and run a few Tactacams in Kentucky. I have had good luck with them. Picture quality is not create unless you purchase a more expensive package. I use Verizon and coverage has been good. Down side is battery life. I set my to upload photo to me once a day, happens at night, and that has really extended battery life.
