Poachers are scum

Report them to the game warden or you are part of the problem if you know of illegal hunting and do nothing to stop it

Well I think if you think hunting before the season is good you are part of the problem. If you think it's happening early you are likely incorrect as it happens about the same time annually
Every year we have warm spells early in the year and people say the dogwoods are blooming and the turkeys are finished, a dog wood may bloom early, a hen could get bred early but the vast majority of turkeys are still right on schedule like they are every year

Well you are right in a lot of ways but you don’t understand everything about a turkey and poachers . I don’t want an argument because a lot of people have their on opinions and I ain’t bashing you for yours . I live in turkey habitat I glass for turkeys every day I got multiple cameras out.I see what turkeys are doing so my opinions are from a first hand perspective

I saw 4 single gobblers and one pair together yesterday. I went to take some firewood back to our little rain shack/cabin and the birds were on the move. Hens are still grouped though. Ive seen a couple groups of 30-40 this week and a group of 11 jakes.

BTW even the hens are bending genders these days. One of the groups I saw I could only get a good look at 15-20 hens and it had at least 5 bearded hens in it. 3 had 9-10 inch beards and I saw 2 more with short 3 inch beards. Thin ones like usual but Im not sure Ive seen that many all together.

This!! I've been doing this a long time. Same time each year.

We would be hunting right now if the state cared about success rates. There’s no better time to be in the woods trying to kill a turkey than right now. Nice crisp cool weather, gobblers on their feet moving around trying to find a harem. Woods are open but still green for this time of year.

The first two weeks of April once hens start nesting seems better to me but that's just on the few places I go. Never really understood the love of mid March, very little green in the woods can make it tough to hide and gobblers can be seen a long ways by hens

You try to hunt all the way down in south bama in April...at least in March it's not a jungle just yet...

I agree with the mid-March obsession. I caution myself every year not to hunt everyday the first two weeks and get burned out too early before it gets good.

I’ve killed a bunch mid to late March. It’s good then as well as April

If hunter enjoyment and satisfaction were important, and it should be the most important factor - then season would start tomorrow in the southern 1/3 of AL. It’s green, it’s hot, and it’s time.

And, it doesn’t even matter if you could prove that nest initiation is exactly the same from the beaches to the TN state line. Hunter enjoyment will pay more dividends in the future - that’s a conservation model that has always worked. I will trap more and spend more on habitat management if I can be successful and hunt the most enjoyable time of the spring season. I will care less and less about doing those things when I can’t enjoy it.

And more than anything - it appears those 10 days won’t help grow the population anyway. The only group of hunters that absolutely love the 10 day delay down here - are the early birds - they were grinning like a possum knowing they were getting 10 extra days of the best hunting all to themselves.

Yea - the rules breaking alone has negated any impact - will end up being a negative. We hav an exceptionally early spring this year - will be interesting to see what march 25 brings - think they be all henned up here. You know where i hunt 😀 - i had a strutter w 8 hens on 3/3. All the gobbs that were here deer season appear to be already in my neighbors hardwoods - cause i aint seeing em. Usually they go 20th to 30th to my neighbor - they already there now i think

Do y’all folks that like hunting in April make an effort to wait until April to start hunting? When season started on the 15th most of the killers around here had their limit before April. I know folks who will watch 10+ birds die before April

I hav always liked March way more and killed more early - way harder to kill
When they slow down r stop gobbling (henned up)
