Any of you have a child playing T Ball this year? I was informed the other day that tee ballers are playing games at 7:30 pm on weekdays. Who came up with that? I always thought those games were played on Saturday mornings.

Our local rec dept has two games a week. None on the weekend. I've never heard of saturday games with the exception of opening day

Well dang. I must be old. My boy is in the bed by 6 so , I don’t know if he will get to play tee ball. What’s the deal with no Saturday games? How long has that been a thing?

That changed years ago. I remember playing on Saturday but not anymore just opening day. Mine aged out of rec and are now in school and damn if the varsity doesn’t play almost every Saturday.

Every park is different. But how did you expect your kid to go to practice if he is in bed by 6 every evening?

We haven’t got schedules yet. Our practices are M,T and Thursdays at either 5:30 or 6:30. Even the 6:30 practices feel late to me, but I’m new to this world.

Just me, but I think kids need to be kids.

Unorganized play, exploring, digging for treasure, rolling around in the dirt, and any other number of creative, unstructured, individual play.

Our youngest grandson (just turned 4 last week) and I think I heard them talking about one game being at 8pm. I think there was some discussion about moving some games around so the younger teams played earlier, but I haven't seen the schedule yet.

I think a lot of parents have their kids on a "whatever is most convenient for the parent" routine instead of what is best for the child.

I will also say that I remember playing rec league softball in elementary and our practices were in the afternoon and games were on Saturdays, but that was during a time when stay at home moms were still very common so kids could get to practice. These days most homes have two parents working and most the coaches have day jobs so all the practices really do have to be after 5pm. And, I guess that lots of families want to do other things on the weekends besides be at the ball field so the games are scheduled on weeknights.

Two days of Tball a week shouldn’t get in the way of 5 days of unorganized play. That should be a good balance for a very young kid.

I've coached about 12 years worth and we always played during week sometimes late as you speak of...

We are in diamond youth, formerly known as Dixie youth…. Yup they changed it. But our tee ball games are on Saturday mornings.
All other age groups are through the week..

You’d be better off spending that time on the field working with just your son. He can doodle in the dirt and play chase at school recess.

Used to work at a park where T ball was 6p&8p Monday Tuesday Friday. I'd get to the park at 3pm we'd start about 3:30 and amazingly everyone would be through by 7pm. It's like earnest and energetic umpires seem to move the game along at a good pace.

I ran a park for a while. We had 5 & 6 yr old games 2 nights a week on 2 fields at 5:45 and 7pm. Games all day Saturday as well. 4 yr olds played on Saturday morning only.

My 4.5 year old son had his first game Saturday. He has one tonight at 7:15pm. Games 2x per week and Practice 1-2x per week.

You can't really play any organized sports if you son is going to be in the bed at 6pm. I assume supper is ready by 5 so you can sit down at the table and eat as a family, then bath at 5:45. Don't look at baseball, basketball, flag football, soccer... etc.

My son used to play all day on Saturday but travel ball forced rec leagues to move all their games to during the week.

Thankfully mine stayed away from baseball. I can't imagine any sport more boring than baseball for a kid
