Clearly I don't know much about deer hunting, but I saw something interesting yesterday as my wife and I were doing our 5 mile walk on our country road. We saw two fairly mature bucks -- one on each end of the road -- chasing does wide open. I've never seen so much buck action in one day. On the upper end of the road, the buck was chasing three does at one time. He gained ground on one doe and poked her hard in the butt with his antlers. My wife witnessed this too and said it wasn't gentlemanly of him to poke her like that.

A good chase going on in mid March.

It’s common in several parts of the state. I have witnessed a buck chase in March at lake Wedowee fishing. They just their thang.

In Marion county that tells me one thing. The sex ratio is grossly out of whack. A good percentage of bucks have dropped antlers, are back in bachelor groups, and does shouldn’t even be a remote consideration. Breeding days in the entire county average from around New Years to January 18th.

I've noticed a BUNCH of deer dead on the roadside over the past 8-10 days. In Walker/Winston counties. Very similar to late December early January when rut is in full swing.

I've seen a bunch of dead deer as of late in north Alabama too. Figured a bunch of the feeders have run dry and they are on the move.

They’re getting killed on roadways now due to spring greenup. There’s clover, geranium, poa annua, rye grass and others having a hay day on the ROWs right now.
