We had a good thread on our main jobs but what does people do as a side gig?

I’ve been mounting antlers (skull caps) for a while and thought about giving it a shot to make some extra cash. Wouldn’t be like a 2nd job because I enjoy it. Curious how many folks do something like that.

I have an industrial hygiene side gig. It relayed to my primary job but it’s for customers at home at night. I write reports based off noise dosimetry/air sampling results, develop sampling plans, write policies, etc.

I shoot beer cans off the front porch with my 45Colt....

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Man, I can't wait to retire!

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

My side gig turned into a sho nuff business. I retired from the fire service saying I'd be happy with 10 inspections a month. I've got a team of 5 now. On track to do 120 this month. No turning back now.

That’s awesome. So you inspect sprinkler systems and fire extinguisher placement for insurance companies?

I had really planned on working after I retired but after the first few months of the good life the only way I would go back to work is if it came down to that or eating cat food in my dotage. And I have enough deer that should never be a problem. I have a big enough place there are more things to do than I could ever get done.

I have a catering business. In just a year’s time it grew to the point I have to turn down jobs unless they are big enough to merit my time. I mainly do weddings and large banquets. I handled our local NWTF banquet a couple weeks ago. I already have enough events booked the rest of the year to take up half my weekends so I’m starting to get real picky about what I take. Gotta have a little free time.

I enjoy going to thrift stores, yard sales, and estate sales and finding stuff to flip online. Not as predictable as far as counting on it since you never know what you'll find, but it's fun to buy something for $1-10 and sell it for $30-100

I periodically will remodel bathrooms or other smaller projects. But, it has been six months or so since my last one. So, I guess I'm saving up for building our house this summer. Though I wont do the foundation, sheet rock, or hvac.. or drill the well.

I'm not sure yet. I retire on April 12th. Won't need any more money.

I do plan to travel quite a bit and build a great room, bar, master bedroom, master bath addition to the cabin. I have that old Ford 4x4 truck to fix up and an old motorcycle to fix up too.

Don't know what I'll work on after that or if any of it might make a little extra money. Though about Photography then taking some of the best photos, printing them out, framing them and selling them at art shows, but I don't like the idea of sitting around all day in a little canopy while people browse your stuff, smile and make small talk.

Some ideas that pop in your head sound good initially, but then when you mull them over and then toss the idea.

I met a guy at an arts and crafts show in Mentone. He was retired and spent his time building canoes with stringers and frames and then used a special material to cover them and then use some kind of activator to stretch tight and cure it. They were partially transparent and the lightest canoes I have ever seen. He had a piece of the material cured and stretch on a wooden frame that you could hit as hard as you wanted and try to break it. I couldn't. They were big dollar canoes.

I'll probably move some cash into a self directed account and play around investing just for fun and spend the rest of my piddling on whatever I want to do.

I wondered my whole life what it would be like to wake up every morning and do whatever I wanted to do. Now I'm going to find out.
