They must be making a come back . The oak tree beside the house sounds like a small chain saw

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

They started rebounding years ago. The news doesn't fit the narrative.

The bees are not rebounding My friends and myself struggle each year to maintain our hives and must make splits or buy bees to keep the same number of hives because we loose some just about every year and one large bee keeper lost about 300 hives in one year.

The game changer for honey bees has been mites and hive beetles. Once they showed up old timer keepers just couldn’t change their methods fast enough. Better understanding and control methods are becoming more available and keepers are more successful but at a financial cost. This cost can be prohibitive for large keepers and even small ones. Additionally a commercial keeper has their honey tested and if they have high pesticide levels the honey is worthless to them. The cost and fear drive some of them to not use control methods and the result is high loss and hives infested with mites and beetles creating a problem not only for themselves but any beekeepers in the near area. We don’t really advertise our bees for sale. But when someone tells me they are going to be a treatment free beekeeper that just means they are going to let their bees die off through mismanagement. A large scale keeper has a better shot due to the number of hives they can split to recoup their losses. But they also lost the revenue of selling a 175 dollar Nuc. They could have treated the hive for about 15 dollars. I see a 160 dollar loss plus time by not selling the Nuc and using it as a replacement. Mites and beetles are here to stay so times are changing.
