Last turkey season I ended up hunting in the rain one day and eventually my glass pot call got wet. It continued to work technically but the sound was way off. I've let it dry for a very long time at this point and it still sounds terrible. Any thoughts? Its a woodhaven red ninja glass call for those interested. I've also tried many strikers and the sound is pretty consistently terrible. The tone is way off.

People are passionate about types of calls and materials they use. For 30 years I’ve kept a 1”x1” piece of 3m 1/4” scrub pad in my turkey pack to rough up calls. They come in a 6-8” sheet. I switched to anodized aluminum and a plastic striker 15+ years ago and I don’t really have to even rough it up anymore. I’d think a scrub pad wound do the job for you.

Did the sound board come detached?

More than likely, the call warped or cupped causing it to “squeeze” the calling surface which will kill the sound. I’ve repaired several Woodhaven calls through the years that have done this. It’s gonna happen sometimes if you work with wood. I try to let mine sit for at least 6-8 months after turning them just for this reason. The absolute worst thing you can do for a wood friction call is let it get really hot, like sitting in the truck where it gets over 100 pretty easy, after being wet. It will dry the call out too fast causing it to warp or cup.

I've used the items that it came with to rough it up and haven't had any problems until it got rather wet.

if you don’t send it to somebody like wareagle to repair, yes ... but he said it can be fixed ... hindsight being 20/20, if you’re a big pot call user, i’d pickup one that 100% weatherproof - i got one from Tony Reynolds that i use in rainy conditions & leave all my wooden calls at the house

I'd toss it, too much trouble to fix.

I would contact Woodhaven and see if they would make it right first before trying to find someone to repair it because chances are, it’s not repairable. It’s according to how bad it cupped/warped as too if it can be repaired. Usually it will break the glass if it is in bad condition though.

Thanks guys. I'll reach out to them and see what they say. Pretty disappointing but it is what it is.

i’m willing to bet they’re going to try & sell you a new call - that’s their business model - not repairs ... even custom call makers i’ve contacted before have told me that - Billy White didn’t want to have anything to do with repairing mine ... thankfully i found a guy that repaired it for me, & interestingly it sounds better than it did originally 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️ to be fair, Billy did sell me a new call at a good price, but the first one was sentimental to me ‘cause it was the first call i bought when i got started
