Going hunting means a lot more than a set and of antlers. It is spending time doing what I love. Not spending 5000 to go shoot someone else’s deer. Dont really even care what they score. I’ve never put a tape measure on a deer. And have no desire to do so.

It would depend on how much you like to go. Spend your dollars on one week you may or may not bring home a stud or on a lease you enjoy every weekend for 3 months with less trophy potential. Boils down to what u like.

Folks can talk all they want to about it being about this and that but at the end of the day the majority of the guys who pay big money do so to have a chance to put antlers on the wall……that’s just the way it is…..I’m curious to see how this plays out over time with the quality going down and the price going up…..Just like Matt has said, there’s lot of places now where you just hope to have a chance of killing a dink 3 year old…..

There’s nothing wrong with people making money…..There IS something wrong though with the powers that be managing the deer herd purely based on the profit motive of other interests instead of biology…..That’s basically where we are now. Deer management on a state level has nothing to do with biology and is all $$$ driven… The people at the top don’t represent the hunter they represent the “industries”. What’s good for the herd or good for the hunters doesn’t matter. We don’t need biologists to manage this system….we just need economists…..the rest is for show……You wonder why money isnt spent on new game wardens?? Cause there’s no need in spending money on something like enforcement when your goal is less “supply” driving higher profits. The mission statement might as well be……”Milk the resource for everything you can without completely running out of deer”……The disingenuous charade that’s put on is what irks me to no end for some reason.

This makes no sense. It’s business to the timber company. No emotions involved. If you have a business and can make more money why would it be considered greedy to do so? If I cut someone’s grass and they tell me they want to pay me $150 for it, do I say no no I’m not greedy. I’ll do it for $125? That’s just being a good business man.

Why don’t you go make more money to pay for the lease instead of whining about someone else making money and calling it greed?

I own more than one business. I provide services to people at a fair price Of course Im in it to make a profit. But I sure as hell don't gouge people and my customers know it and trust me. Im tired of people and companies trying to gouge me for every damn penny. Not a big fan of greedy folks. One of my businesses is a Lawn Maintenance Landscaping Company. I dont let folks tell me what they will pay, I look at a job and price it at what I believe is a fair price. If they take it fine, if not, no big deal.

There is a big difference between being a good business man and screwing people over. I refuse to do the latter. I do have too look at my face in the mirror each morning.

This right here ^^^^^^ is why it is fundamentally flawed to pit a natural resource like deer against $$$ and the profit motive……Money will always do what’s best for money…..That’s not a good long term game plan.

As deer hunting gets more and more expensive a big mouth bass is looking better and better. Deer hunters haven’t been able to get along for some time now. First it was dog hunting has gotta go. Now it’s we shouldn’t kill anything but 6 year old mature bucks that score 150. It hasn’t been about real hunting in quite some time. And there’s quite a few on here that I don’t even consider deer hunters. They just a bunch a corn pile sitters who do it cause it’s easy.

Some of y’all would not be happy until you are the only one allowed to hunt. Then still bitch that someone else messed everything up.

And they’d say it was messed up by those sorry hunters who don’t believe in trophy hunting. It’s all about the rack. I’d be willing to bet there’s quite a few on here who were those parents in little league calling the coach about when little billy is getting his trophy.

And people on here hate government overreach in their lives until it comes to deer hunting. Then they want so many laws that you can’t hardly hunt.

So, you take the same approach as the Timber Companies. Nothing wrong with it at all. It’s called Capitalism.
