I have never owned a bad Remington rifle, of any kind. I also know what to stay away from.

All I can say is the REM 742// 30.06 I received as a gift in 1982 still kills a deer every year... and it has never jammed , but I shoot cheap 150 gr. Corelokts in it so I am living on borrowed time...so I guess every Remington but mine sucks.

I have one, use the same ammo, never jams, has killed many deer from 50yds out to 425yds. I think its a great gun.

My son and i went in on a 770 for him when he was 6yo. It shoots straight but it has the worst action i ever seen on a gun. Its just aweful. I reckon you knew to stay away from a 770?

I bought a Model 700 Stainless CDL in 2020. If there is anything wrong with it I haven't found it yet. Shoots good. Nice fit and finish. And a very smooth action.

Several model 7’s,1100’s, 870’s every one has gone bang when I pulled the trigger. I’ve personally had no problems out of them. Ymmv

Own several 870 shotguns from .410 to 12 ga. I sold every other shotgun I’ve ever owned and kept all my Rem 870s because of their reliable and consistent function. I own two Rem 700 rifles, one late 1990s and one early 2000s. I don’t even know how many deer they’ve killed but each has likely killed more deer than most ppl will in a lifetime. Not a single issue with any of them.

Yep, never owned a 770 and never will.

Stay with a Model 7 or a Model 700

Both are fine rifle series.

1962 to 1999 would be my preference.

I had one of the older 700 actions trued and blueprinted for target work a long time ago. The smith had to take a lot of metal off to true it up. Also, the firing pin hole was sloppy. Had him to bush the hole and replace the pin. So I would say that even some of the older ones were sloppy. That being said, I have seen some in the factory class that shot real well. I will stick to custom actions for target work

LOL….I’ve owned 5 11-87s…..four of them were defective from the factory or shredded parts within the first 3-shots out of the box. I sent 6 out of a batch of 10 M24s straight out of the CUSTOM shop for our snipers….mostly for failure to headspace or proper bolt lockup. Remington screwed up a wet dream: they had some of the best, most widely used designs in the firearm world, and worked tirelessly throughout the 90s and 2000s to find new ways to crap on their name. There were even a large run of 870s that’d shear the ejectors from the barrel extensions.

Just to chime in.

I’ve never had a 700 that wasn’t accurate, old or new.

I’ve got a Christensen arms rifle as my primary gun. It’s basically a 700 clone.

^^^ Don’t think I don’t still own some Remington stuff, and it’s good stuff…..but it’s mostly from before the spiral or I got lucky. If you want a new 700, I’d probably buy a Bergerac or Christensen version, before Remington….just because they seem to do 700s better. wink

I’ve had high hopes on 2-3 occasions, that Remington was going to get back on track. I’ve been disappointed every time. Hang onto your good ones, but don’t expect their equal in any Remington not old enough to drink.

I have to agree about the Bergara rifles. They are what Remington shoulda done with the 700

Reading their website, it appears they are putting 5R barrels and timney triggers on the new 700s. Thats a good start.

Need to relocate the bolt release up to the side and get rid of that stupid tab in front of the trigger too!

All but the Alpha 1 and police model will have the "Impact" non-adjustable Timney Triggers
