Wasn't the model 770 the ones they had all the problems with?

Remington had problems with everything they made for a while

I bought Remington M700s, Model Sevens, and 870s right up to the last bankruptcy. I never had any issues with any of them. 🤷‍♂️

They were so bad at the gun shop we wouldn't let one leave the store without test firing it. Main problem was missing parts. A Remington Rep came in one day, told us a couple of years back the company switched from a Connecticut machine screw manufacturer they had been using for 75 years to Chinese to save money. Screws would constantly break and strip during assembly.

Chambers, tenons, threads, crowns, tooling marks, off center base screws, off center action screws ect ect.

Buy ones built from 1962 through 2000 and you will have a great rifle.

Maybe even a little later than 2000.

I have a 1995 700 BDL Custom Deluxe that is sweet.

The 770's I've messed with shot well, but they are just a slightly updated version of the 710.
The main issue I have seen with them is the bolt handles breaking. If that happenes the gun is a paperweight.
You can't get parts and no one will work on them
You call Remington and they will refer you to the "local" authorized repair center (Mark's Outdoors)
You call Mark's and they will tell you that you're SOL

The 710s were the turd and the 770s were the slightly polished turd.

Turds that were generally 1-2” guns with anything fed to them. The furniture they carry is cheap but as far as going bang and keeping fairly consistent groups, the 2 I had did as advertised.

They actually started the fall off around 1992-1993, but it wasn’t true ‘rot’ until early 2000s.

I've got a 710 in 30-06 that my dad gave me when I was maybe 13-14. as said above, it'll shoot 1 - 1.5" groups @ 100 pretty consistently with really any ammo I shoot through it. I usually just stick to Fusions or Core-Lokt's. Did a rattle can paint job on it to cover up the ugly-azz grey stock and it's a perfectly sufficient rifle for hunting around here.

EDIT....I think I also stuffed the stock with with a ziplock bag of pea gravel or something, then a bunch of rags to keep it tight and from rattling/moving around, just to give it a little extra weight/better balance.

Remington Guns.... Sucked from around 1998 until whenever they went broke the first time shortly thereafter. And ever since.

What doesn't anymore? I've seen several pics of broken bolt handles and receivers broken at the tang. They also felt like the bolt had plastic in it when cycled.

There were plenty of other, better guns in that price range at the time (Savage 110 and Winchester push feed guns come to mind). Walmart even had 700 ADLs for just a little more.

And after going by the new Lagrange plant the other day,I don’t look for it to change anytime soon…

Remington is all but gone and forgotten. You get what you pay for.

I thought that, until I held one of the NEW new ones in my hands last fall. I was VERY impressed with the quality of the wood and firment of the stock, blueing and general fit and finish. I also like that they're updating many calibers with slightly faster twist rates to accommodate some of the longer, sleeker bullets available now. I know its only a sample size of 1, but It really felt like the old remington was back.I heard similar reports of the new 870's looking and feeling like the wingmaster's of yesterday, but no first hand.

I really believe the group that has Remington now will get them back in the game, given some time. They are on the right track.

i doubt i buy another Remington i buy another bolt-action itll probably be another savage .
