Booked a trip to Costa Rica about a month ago and spent the last 7 days at Crocodile Bay. Wife and I are taking a few trips to celebrate our 25th anniversary with this being the first of them. Booked three days of fishing to make the most of it. Day 1 was bad since we trolled without a single bite. They said the moon had the fish screwed up but who knows. Day 2 was as spent inshore and was somewhat uneventful as well. We caught a few bottom fish and jigged some jacks for the grill. My wife did miss two bites from a rooster fish which made her sick. She really wanted that picture. I also missed a big Cubera that ate a live bonito. After discussing with the captain, we decided to take the next day off for rest and do some exploring. On to Day 3 which I wasn’t very optimistic about. On the ride out, the deckhand said “We find you fish today”. Off we go in a different direction than the first day. Made it 20 miles offshore and deployed the spread. Several turtles floating around and flying fish were being chased everywhere. Trolled 30 minutes without raising any fish but finally had a sail show in the spread. That began a great day for us as we went 5/10 on sailfish. They are a very beautiful fish but I was surprised at how easy they were to land. Most were boatside within 10 minutes of hooking up. Much of that was due to the boat handling by the captain. Of the five that we caught, my wife landed the biggest which was around 120 lbs.

Beautiful country. Was at croc bay 10-15 yrs ago. I said then that if a T. rex walked out of the jungle it wouldn’t surprise me. Beautiful, wild country. I will go back one day.
