Why ask this question ?
Do you see this regime leading us in a direction that will end in us buying tags ?
I remember getting raked over the coals on here for mentioning this

When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself

Poaching is already a $1,000 fine.

Didn't realize Alabama writes its code based on criminal's feelings. whistle

I was throwing out the idea of the poacher deciding not to pay the large fine by eliminating the chance of being turned in to law enforcement. Just something to think about.

Every time they stop and talk to someone now they have to write them a ticket for something. I have a buddy who caught a hunting at night charge last season for walking back to his truck after dark and using a flashlight. Another got a ticket for not having on hunter orange and he was in his vehicle when he was stopped.

I think tags along with stiff enough penalties for not using them will make the majority of hunters voluntarily comply due to the risk involved in not doing so…….The key would be to make the penalty harsh enough that it isnt worth folks taking the risk of not complying. Does anyone go out west and dick around with not reporting or tagging? Nobody here cares right now because there’s no teeth behind the rule and its too easy to cheat the system. We might as well just get rid of the 3 buck limit because the only people its regulating are the really, really honest……Again, if you want the resource to be better managed then where are you going to make those changes if you don’t start with enforcing bag limits?

We have to game check the deer and get a confirmation number before you move the animal now!! I don’t see where a physical tag is going to change anything. If you dont have the little slip you fill out or your confirmation number, you’re in violation. Pretty simple. Until the ones not following the law are rules start feeling the pain financially, nothing will change. I’ve met the GW in our area a few times because we needed help with road hunters and night hunters. The first time it took him 3 days to contact me. Other 2 times he was there within a couple hours. He has way to much area to cover and people to deal with for just one person. No way he could could stop and check every vehicle that’s looks like hunters may be driving and check for tagging compliance. It’s totally impossible!! You would have to have multi unit task forces throughout the whole state to deal with it the way it should be. I don’t see it happening.

They way I understand it, actually you dont. You have 48 hrs to game check your deer. If you do not game check it in the field using the app or calling it in, you simply fill out the paper form and have that in your possession and from there you have 48 hrs to actually call the state or use the app to get the confirmation number. And you're 100% correct. With the current staffing, there is no way to even remotely force compliance or effectively enforce the regs currently on the books.

I’d be ok with it along with taking buck limit down to 2 and limit doe harvest. GA had good model and it’s paying off with a lot of giant deer every year.

I was supposed to put the part about the the little slip of paper in the first sentence and apparently overlooked it. More reason to proof read!!👍

This is one reason I suppose they make the rules without it being something the public votes on……I mean it would pretty hard to get a group of people who aren’t complying to vote yes on changes that would make them have to comply. laugh

With the way game check currently works you could kill 10-20 bucks, get checked by wardens with all 20, and still never report a deer.

Kill buck
Write down kill
Stopped by warden with buck - look I wrote it down!
Get home. Don't call in buck
Throw paper in garbage
Print new paper
Rinse and repeat

I wonder what percentage of the actual buck harvest comes from folks night hunting, shooting over the limit or shooting two bucks in a day??......An extra 30% maybe??.......At what point is enforcement considered to be an issue? I mean, if there was an extra 50% being killed because of people breaking the rules would nobody see that as an issue? loco

Tags would make it easier on me taking in heads to mount but it won't make people Do any different. I mean if a person has children or a spouse that doesn't hunt they could use they're tags as well.

I like all these fine and enforcement rules changes for public and leased land. Privately owned land should be exempt from all rules as long as the property tax is paid

I love how everyone is a "libertarian" (literally means smallest possible government ever), but wants to nail their fellow man to the wall for not following rules he deems appropriate. It's a crazy thing to see.

Yeah. Just what I need…tags to keep up with and lose or forget them at the house. Just more regulations that make hunting difficult.

No tags.

Game Check is enough of a pain in the rectum.

Stay with 3 buck limit.

Personally, I'd be fine with a 3, 4, or 5 doe limit.

End Zone A season on January 31.

Enforce the rules and laws already in place.

Beyond that, leave things alone.

Do away with three buck limit that should have never been imposed in the first place. No tags
