I have been off carbs for 3 weeks, but not losing weight....I am in ketosis according to the little pee strips, but I am tired of eating right and not losing. For breakfast i will have eggs and sausage or bacon, lunch a salad with bacon bits and cheese, lettuce only (no dressing), and a ground beef patty, for supper basically the same thing I had for lunch, maybe a salad and bbq or steak with no sauce. I have been on this for 3 weeks, initially lost 4 pounds (water weight I guess), but nothing since.......I do have a diet coke in the morning, and i might have a few light beers (2.6 carbs) at night, if I am in ketosis, why am I not losing weight?

I don’t know about your specific situation but it will work. Just hang in there.

Even though I keep my net carbs under 20, I still have to watch calories. I try to stay under 1500. Not saying that is your problem, but there is a lot more to it than just being in ketosis....

I think that is one reason I am getting discouraged, I did it about 15 years ago with great siccess, however I am having trouble making it work again....

The best option in my opinion is a balanced diet with exercise. You can us the 1st Phorm app or Myfitnesspal. Enter your height and weight and what your goal is, mine is to lose weight so it gives me the macros I need to hit daily.

Mine are:
Calories - 1770g
Protein - 175g
Carbs - 125g
Fats - 64g

Hitting your protein goal will keep your carbs down, I am usually well under 125 for the day.

I try, but it's hard. I end up just starving myself most of the time. One meal a day is usually what I eat. Fast from 8p to 1p most days. Then eat dinner early. What little bread, if any, isn't enough to cause damage. I do try to avoid pasta and bread. Taters are the hardest thing. I've got a handful of go to foods I use to stay on track. Weekends I do get a little break from it. I'm too busy to count everything. Barely have time to take an uninterrupted dump most days.

I will say I feel better with limited carbs and intermittent fasting.

I have been limiting carbs, cut out bread and pasta. Hardly any processed foods and no sugar drinks. I do still drink some beer and bourbon with water. I have also intermittent fasted a good bit. I have noticed a bump in energy and clarity. I have also dropped a little over 10 pounds. I do not crave sweet things so that is nice. I will say it is pretty hard to eat right when you are always on the run, it costs way more but so far I'm happy with it.

I've done it before, and am doing it now! Pee straps are lying to you if your drinking beer and cokes. Sugar (carbs) from drinks go strait to liver for processing. If your truly in ketosis it would be falling off. You are basically on a low carb diet! The best trick you can do and I promise it will work. Do it for real for one week and if it don't work call me out on it! Don't eat ANYTHING from 8 at night till lunch time the next day. Eat all you want from 12 till 8, just zero carbs. I promise it will be tough for first two or three days but after that you won't be hungry. It's tough but you gotta hang in there. Self discipline is a man's trait that has been lost in today's world. Good luck!

More than likely you are not in a calorie deficit. Type your info into this calculator and see what your maintenance calories are a day. Then eat less than that.

I've been doing low carb, not necessarily Keto, for about 3 weeks and I'm somewhat stuck at 9 lbs weight loss. Happy for the 9 but want another 5 lbs at least.

Try switching up your meal times. Skip breakfast and lunch a couple days. Then eat a couple days with breakfast. Keep your body guessing. That will help break the cycle,

Try the intermittent fasting. Are you going at least 12 hours between your evening meal and breakfast? If you eat enough protein and healthy fat in the evening, you should be able to go to lunch time without getting too hungry. I have been back doing it about three weeks as well and there are days when I do all my calorie consumption in about a 6 hour window. A couple of years ago I ended up going about 30 hours between meals simply due to being busy and then not wanting to cook or go out to get anything. Keep your fluid intake up, but try to get away from the artificial sweeteners as well since they will still affect insulin response (not sure if your only goal is to lose weight or not).

I will say that there are days when the scale doesn't budge and then it will show a pound down overnight. That is normal.

I wonder if you are not consuming enough calories, though, so your body is in starvation mode and it has actually slowed your metabolism down.

What size hamburger patty are you eating? If a quarter pound, increase lunch or supper to two patties and see what happens.

Yes they are rather small portions, I can increase them, I feel great and have alot more energy, no sweet cravings, just not losing.

I started doing "keto" and lost about 10 pounds my first week. It slowed after that. Then I started doing intermintent fasting, finishing dinner no later than 6pm then not eating agin until noon the next day.
I cut ALL beer even the low carb stuff. I had a cheat day every friday when we'd go eat mexican and have margaritas. Even then except for the margs and chips I ate a low card meal (fajitas with no beans, rice or tortillas).
I dropped a total of 64 pounds in 5 months

Idk about the diet coke, I do know I have done this for years, and when I eat the keto friendly stuff and things that say zero net carbs I either slow down to a pound or two a week, or just stay where I'm at no loss no gain. If I stay strict, eggs bacon salmon beef, stuff I know has zero real carbs, I feel better. I'm never hungry, and I lose weight fast.. my problem is when I get to desired weight I start to cheat and start gaining weight again. Bit when I say cheat, I mean go crazy and eat and drink whatever I want. The whole net carb thing isn't the same as no carb, to me. I went from 270 to 210 in about 8 months twice

It sounds like your body has a low carb tolerance to stay in ketosis. The pee strips aren’t always accurate. Some people can do 50 carbs and still lose weight. Some people have to stay under 10. Some people require zero. Lettuce has carbs. Not many but it does. If you add carrots and tomatoes all have carbs. Some pre grated cheese has carbs. They are added in with the chemicals to help the cheese not lump up during shipping and all. So I bet you have a low carb tolerance and are just eating more carbs than you think.

I would cut all carbs. ALL… and then see if you lose weight. Do it for a week. Then add back about 5 carbs for a week and see how it goes.

Intermittent fasting along with zero carbs is the way to go. Week 1 is tough but after that you will be good to go. Fasting keeps your insulin low for a longer period of time which helps you burn fat longer. When I do it, I do 20/4. Just black coffee for breakfast, another cup in the afternoon, and then a zero carb supper. I usually do carnivore. So I just eat as much meat as I want for supper. Usually I eat about 2-2.25 lbs. I usually lose about 5-7 lbs a month after the initial 15-20lb loss. I am 45 and 5’10” about 225. But my weight fluctuates when I’m not doing the carnivore fasting combo. I will get up to about 255 and then lose to around 215. I could do it year round if it wasn’t for those pesky holidays and hunting camp meals.

Well backwoods cowboy, me and you agree on something finally.

3 weeks is not long enough - you’ll see your biggest weight loss normally in the third month on keto

i know it’s tough - but ditch the beer completely ... even though it’s low carb, alcohol knocks your body back & instead of burning fat it’s now trying to clean out the alcohol

as others said, extend your IF window to 16 hours (or more)... eat your supper at 4pm & don’t eat breakfast until 9am or so the next morning

i’d also suggest walking/rucking or some sort of physical exercise for about an hour a day

one thing i had to learn to be on keto was hungry but not eating & definitely not snacking between meals — being hungry is a good thing, it means your body has fully processed the food you gave it & is now burning fat for fuel ...
