Headed towards 7th year of retirement. I love it but, it speeds by too fast and as stated 'expect the unexpected". I retired from the Government so I carried great health insurance at a great price.

A lot depends on your circumstances. I retired last year at 66 and it is fantastic. My wife and I were just discussing how nice it is to spend the morning just chilling out, have a cup of coffee, watch some depressing news and have the opportunity to do whatever we may choose for the day. I am blessed in that I retired to about 320 acres so I really have more to do than I ever could get done. It is scary how fast weeks go by now. Now if I was stuck in a normal house with not a lot to do it would be different. I would counsel anyone to retire as soon as possible if they have the resources because a lot of retirement quality will be determined by your health. I am ate up with Osteo arthritis and have A Fib and have both really diminished my ability to accomplish and do what I would like.

Look me up when you are retired. I'm pretty much a professional at wasting time doing stuff. Comes natural to me.

Good for you! I’m 57 and I won’t ever be able to retire and I’ve accepted it. I hate it but financially it just won’t happen. Started saving way too late. I may go to 3 days a week in 10 years if I can. Word of wisdom to you younger folks on here. Start as soon as you get a job and put away as much for retirement as you can.

I retired last year at 59. It’s been great, traveled across the country for a while, do honeydews whenever she ask, hanging out with family and friends more, farm work, hunting a lot and fishing.
I have so many “things to do” I started a list on the refrigerator in the shop and mark them off as I finish them. Staying busy has not been a problem.
My daughter says I’m living my best life.
Go ahead and pull the plug as soon as you’re ready, you can always go back to work.

I won't know until 01/01/2025.

My current employer will let me work part time. I get to set the number of hours. Figure this income will be my boat gas and other such items.

If all goes as planned, I'll fully pull the plug in 7 years at 55 years old. I'm retired military so I have the pension, VA disability, and Tricare for health insurance. Current job has probably the best 401k in the country and I'm pumping it full of money. Our goal is to sell everything when we both retire in 7 years and travel in an RV, ride the motorcycle, and see the country chasing good weather!
