Once I went on a daily dose of Allopurinol, I never had another gout attack.

same on the allopurinol. If you get on allopurinol and forget to take it and get a flare up, wait until after the flare up is over before taking it. It makes the flare up way worse. Good luck - gout sucks

After a while on allopurinol (probably a non scientific year period +) if you miss a dose the likelihood of a flare up is minimal. I've missed a few days in a row because I forgot my meds.l when traveling out of town...just made sure to eat less trigger foods to avoid issues. Once the uric acid levels stabilize in a good range, missing a couple doses hasn't been an issue for me at least. Your mileage may vary.

Mine flares in my ankle joint and when it does I can’t walk. It’s no joke. Also scary to not be able to walk. The first time I had a flare up I jumped out of bed like I always do and I hit the floor. Called the doctor and said I got to come in for an X-ray I broke my ankle getting out of bed. He sent me for an X-ray and said before I get it back we will start you on allipurinol. He knew but I didn’t I really thought I broke my ankle. Cause that’s what it felt like.

I've had it off and on for 10-15 years. I usually have about two flare ups a year and when I get one now , a tri-axel load of Cherries won't help it. Those who haven't ever had it, have no idea how bad one joint can hurt.

Dump truck parked on my big toe is the only way I can describe it. Thank goodness it never made it to an ankle.

Get it in your knee and you’ll seriously consider peeing on yourself instead of walking to the bathroom.

I get it in my 4th toe on my left foot. It seems to flare up for no determinable reason at all. Go months without drinking a drop of booze and it flares up, don't eat red meat for a while and it flares up. It seems to flare up and go away in 36-48 hour cycles and then nothing for several months.

I've read on those web-MD places on the interwebs, that it usually goes away on it's own in two weeks. I can't put up with it for two weeks. It seems each flare up is worse than the one before for me. They're rough and hard to get rid of for me now.
