He did. He was fishing with a friend on a back yard pond. He was wearing flip flops. They went to get in a Jon boat and when he picked it up a cottonmouth was under it and hit him on the foot. Spent the night in the ER. He had some tissue loss on the inside of his big toe. That was in May of 2016 and said he still has numbness at the site of the bite.

Mbrock, yes I am aware of that. I have had several dogs bitten by poisonous snakes and they survive. I figure if it doesn't kill my 50# dog it is more than likely not going to kill a 200+# man. I was just pointing to the fact that not many on here have replied about surviving a venomous bite. It is getting late on a Sat night and I may not have made my point clearly.

Got very close to being hit by a cotton mouth. He was already coiled up with mouth wide open and I was a foot from him. I yelped like a puppy and was high stepping for several yards till I got my bearing straightened out.

I was staying with my grandmother one night when I was probably 11ish. The dogs started barking outside the back door. We went to check them and they had a rattlesnake mad about 10 ft from the door. My grandma couldnt get the one dog clear and the snake bite it. It ran back a little and she shot the snake. But the damage was done and the dog ran off in the woods and wouldnt come to our calls. 2 days later the dog showed up and its head and neck were really swollen. The snake bit it right between the eyes. The dog survived but it was a white dog and always had 2 black marks beteeen its eyes after that.

I was turkey hunting with my dad and we split up and 5 minutes later I heard a shot. He had went to take a break on a log and felt something hit his leg. He turned and saw a rattlesnake coiled up next to the log. He was lucky it just made holes in his pants. The snake wasnt lucky. The next weekend he accidentally stepped over another rattlesnake and he was a rattled for the rest of that turkey season.

We see rattlesnakes pretty often. I saw 5 or 6 last summer.

Been popped by a green snake and a garter snake as a kid. I may be wrong, but seems like bhamfred has been hit. Maybe he’ll chime in and say yay or nay.

My grandmother was bitten by a cottonmouth when she was in her twenties. There was not much they could do for her in the 1930’s. She stayed in bed for about a week and was okay after that. Her lower leg had a blue tint to it until the day she died about fifty years later.

Fortunately never even hunting East Everglades and Big Cypress National Preserve for many years. I came close a couple of times in Big Cypress almost stepping on one in the muzzleloading season. Had a big cottonmouth come after me crossing a swamp in Holmes county many years ago. Extremely aggressive even for a cottonmouth. I had a good friend who turned my fear into respect and purposely took me around the swamp to find them and understand how far they could strike and where they hide. Helps when you understand their limitations and don’t mess with them. He used to collect cottonmouths and rattlesnakes in the 60s and 70s and sell them to Bill Haast and got bit on the thumb once. Said it hurt bad but didn’t inject a lot of venom. Went to the local doctor who shot him up with antivenin and antibiotics. Another friend had same experience with good dose of venom and intense pain and swelling. An acquaintance I used to hunt with got bit by a cottonmouth and an Eastern Diamondback. The rattlesnake got him on the foot on a buggy trail wearing sandals. He said it was really bad. Stuck his foot in a 150 quart marine cooler because of swelling. Pain was intense. By the time his friends got him out in the buggy he passed out. Woke up in the hospital days later. Almost died. Lucky he didn’t lose his foot. I almost always wear snake boots after hearing about their experiences. I always look carefully before I sit down when I’m turkey hunting. With my luck I’ll get bit in the butt. rofl

Yes, by a rattlesnake. 14 vials of antivenin. He never rattled.

I was working, and went to drive a survey stake in the ground on a creek bank and he was curled up right where I went with my hand. He popped me in between my pinky and ring finger. They are masters of camouflage. I never saw him. Felt like the a bad hornet sting. In fact, I initially thought I’d gotten into some ground yellow jackets. When I saw blood, my gut told me snake about the time I saw him. I had to walk about 800 yards back to the truck and get my coworker to drive us to Piedmont in Columbus.

When I got to the ER and told them I got hit by a rattlesnake, the nurse looked at me funny and said “there isn’t any rattlesnakes around here”. That pissed me off and to which I looked at the doctor and told him to not let her come near my room and treat me, because I didn’t want anyone that stupid to give me medicine. She got beet red and I never saw her again. I bet I got asked a dozen times if I was playing with the snake because of the location of my bite, as most people get bit on their feet. They tried everything they could to not give me that antivenin, at over $10-11k a vial.

My hand swole up like a medical glove blown up like a balloon in 30 minutes. They started tracking the swelling once I got to the hospital. I want to say it was about 5 inches up my forearm in 1.5 hours. I don’t remember much after that as the morphine was in full effect.

The most pain was the swelling. I thought my skin was going to explode. Feel free to ask questions, as I’m writing this on my phone so it may not be the best literature. I’ll have to dig up some pictures to post.

been bit twice. Got hit by a cottonmouth when I was sixteen at Actons Dam on the Cahaba. Two fang holes, no poison, no swelling.

Got hit in left calf in 1985ish in Greene Co while turkey hunting. I was walking steady thru an open hardwood stand trying to get ahead of a turkey. Never rattled, never knew it was there till it hit me. I threw up twice right there, killed the snake and owned to my buddy to come to me. We walked a mile to the truck. Checked bite at truck, one fang hole, some blood. Drove to Eutaw 30 min away. Only had minimal swelling so we said fk it and went to the bait shop for a bite. Had to have a big cyst removed from the bite location ten years later.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
