If your mind is set on advancing , I’d move on. Things probably won’t improve there. If it’s a relatively good gig in the big picture and you can see retirement on the horizon then it may make sense to put up with it. Otherwise I’d be looking for my next opportunity.

The old way of running a business (expecting highly driven and high performing employees to put up with all of the BS) isn’t going to fly now a days. Younger gens will put up with some BS, but they won’t be force fed it. They’ll just leave and start their own successful company and implement the technologies and treatment that their peers want or they’ll bounce until they find a company who appreciates them.

Will say I get sick & tired of my coworkers bitching about how bad our company is & they always are threatening to leave. Some, many of ‘em won’t be happy anywhere. Be looking for a better gig. Have a timeline. If things don’t improve in 3 months, 6 months, whatever, I’m gone.

33? Oh heck, move on before something happens that keeps you locked in. Trust us old folks on that advice. You can get trapped in a job you don't like just because any number of things can happen that you have no control over.

What do you sell, because if it's anything that I use in either business, you just got your foot in the door. Actually, you just got both feet in the door.

I told a perspective vendor this week, that they held my checkbook in their hand. I still held the pen. If they can do what they promise me that they can, at the prices they think they can do, then they get the pen and checkbook. I'm basically begging for competent vendors.

Yep. I do a lot of buying, and for a redneck from Marshall county, I do mean a lot. At the end of the day, people buy from people. If you have customer relationships built, as a salesman SHOULD, then leave and take your customers to the new company.

My wife is in pharma sales and does extremely well, but she is constantly getting screwed over by quotas changing, then drug coverage changing, then no product available to the public, and even had her bonus capped at a certain number way below what she was due to receive. She gets offered jobs all the time, but usually would require a territory change that would require too much travel for a mom of 3

That's the thing about sales, your goals and targets are always changing...ALWAYS. Your reward for hitting goal, will be figuring out how to grow 20% the next year to hit your next goal. It's going to be like that every where you go. I've been fortunate in that the current company I work for I'm surrounded by people that I not only like working with but I also care about their well being as well. It makes traveling, spending time away from home and overcoming those lofty sales goals much easier to deal with. If your in an environment that is toxic and everyone around you makes it more toxic, it's time to leave. That being said, if you're in a place that you like the people you work with and it's in an industry that you can grow in, money isn't always the end all as long as your comfortable with what you're making. Eventually, you'll get to a point that instead of looking for jobs, prior co-workers or bosses that have moved on will reach out to you with new opportunities.

This right here. The last couple of weeks and the next few weeks will be more chaotic than they would have been if one of our vendors had done that. At the same time in another area, we got an opportunity to fix someone else’s uh oh for a customer and went out of our way to do so. Without good people working for you and good vendors supporting you work is much harder. If we could make everything sales could bring in the door I’d be tickled to pay them their commission. Sales is the life blood of a company. In our business though, some of it anyway, the sales staff could easily sell more than we could possibly do which wouldn’t be good for the company or customer. The opportunities have to be managed.

I’m sure there are some kind of consultants in the industry. Go out in your own and consult on implementing a new product or spec out a project, etc. specialize in something and go to work for yourself. I waited too long wish I had done it sooner.

Exactly. I’ve not worked in a true sales job, but I’ve always been amazed at the goal posts constantly shifting to the impossible and the whining about a salesman’s pay or the hours he keeps. If they are producing the desired numbers or better, it’s a win for everyone.

Salesman are why the very large company i work for stays open for business - we drive/grow the company - why the doors are open
