Who here has been over to Africa hunting? What species? What country/ies? How long was your trip? What do you wish you someone told you before your Africa first trip? Picked up a CZ 550 FS in 9.3X62 from Gundoc this afternoon The poor man’s Africa cartridge, perfect for my brokeass. It falls right between 35Whelen & 375H&H. 286Gr soft point or solid humming along about 2,300FPS Saturday I picked up a Meopta Optika 6 1-6X24, it has an illuminated German #4 Got it on clearance for $450, not bad. I need to order a set of Warne rings.

Congrats on the new rifle! Closest I’ve been to the Dark Continent is Gee’s Bend.
Seems like BudMeadows has several trips under his belt if I remember correctly.

wife and I spent 16 days in Zimbabwe in 2005. Tent camp, generator for electricity, right on a river bank with crocs and hippos. Killed a bunch of stuff, Kudu, Impala, Bush Pig, Wilderbeast, 1800 pound Eland, bunch of birds. Buddy killed a Cape Buffalo. That 9.3X62 would be ideal for everything but the Buffalo. I used a 375H&H, a 264WM, and a 6.5X57. I'd go back in a heartbeat if not for cost.
South Africa is like hunting large Texas high fence places. Zimbabwe is more like open wilderness with heat...and lions...
We had a large male Leopard come by camp several times roaring and grumbling and an old female lion stayed in our camp at night...made me nervous as hell.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

What would you like to know?
I’ve been on 7 safaris. My first was in 2001. I’ve shot 44 species down there with all sorts of guns/calibers. I’ve hunted a few fenced ranches in both South Africa and Namibia but most of my hunting there has been free range. The last few trips to South Africa I’ve hunted a 450,000 acre free range conservancy in addition to another 200,000 acre free range conservancy in a different area.
Give me a call and I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.

M48 you can kill numerous African species in Texas. However it will actually cost more to hunt them in Texas than it would to fly to Africa and hunt them in their native habitat.
I know that sounds crazy but the trophy fees are outrageous on African Critters in Texas.

No experience in Africa, but I love mannlicher rifles! Thats a beaut. Did it come from the factory as a 9.3x62 or did you have it re-barreled by Gundoc? Factory 9.3X62, bought it from a gentleman on a different forum who lived in Tucson AZ, Gundoc was who did the transfer. My 9.3X62 ammo arrived just now, with 5rds in the mag, w/o scope/rings it’s right at 8lbs according to the kitchen scale.
