Different things are happening at different places. Deer populations are not down everywhere, turkey populations arent either. And its probably different reasons populations are down in the different places where they are. Cnc is probably right about his area. Getting hunters to agree on anything is unlikely at best. Brothers that hunt together, lifelong friends that hunt together maybe but members in a club I doubt it.

I’ve toured 100’s of properties in 23 different counties not counting the ones I grew up hunting…..The principles of wildlife management are the same in every county…..the variables just change. If you go back and look, the principles was what this thread was about before it got derailed

Looks like somebody had a good evening hunting and will eat well for a little while but i would be in mourning quite a while if i did that. Its kinda weird the difference in people though. I let somebody come kill one doe early in the season and i swear it just about made me sick. Me and my son both killed a 2yo buck in the same week about a month later, and we enjoyed it. I know that would have tore some of yall up the way that dead doe did me. Takes all kinds of folks to make a world. It might have something to do with the amount of work put into it. Ive worked hard to get a good number of does here, it didnt feel right killing one. Yall work hard to get that 2yo buck to 4yo so it hurts you to see one dead.

it’s not always about who is right or wrong… Regardless of his methods, CNC is just generating discussion over a topic that matters to each and every one of us and that’s a healthy deer population. The problem is we probably all have different ideas of what exactly that means. We are privileged to live in one of the most diverse states in the country. Per usual, we as hunters are our own worst enemy and we attack each other instead of staying open minded and being willing to listen. What’s good for one area may be horrible for others but we’ll never know if we don’t talk about it.


I don’t have a dog in this hunt (<—— see what I did there?) With the exception of the biologists like mbrock and the big timber/Ag guys,,,,the trackers like CNC, Dano, IdahoMike, etc really do have a unique opportunity to see a much broader portion of our state than the average joe like myself will ever see.

The land that I hunt is about 200 acres (family land) with a lake on the north end and smaller land owners on all sides (no hunting clubs in area). We don’t shoot does unless it’s archery and we seen more deer in the past 5 years than we have seen in the previous 20 years. Quality of bucks keeps going up also and we use corn & also planted different fruit trees in key areas (apples, persimmons, etc)

Most of my neighbors don’t hunt and I really don’t care what they do as long as they don’t put a stand or a feeder next to our property line (they are all pretty cool and we don’t tell them what to do, but they all know that we hunt & they don’t tell us what to do either).

Letting the does walk and keeping the predators in check (yotes & bobcats) seems to be the secret sauce to improving the quality of bucks.
