You got that right , a lot of folks go to a CPA not familiar with timber schedules and he or she files it as regular capital gains and they get raped .

I use Free Tax USA because it's only $14.99 total. Federal is free and state is $14.99. I've been doing mine since I was 16. My dad always raised me to never pay another man to do my work. I wouldn't say it's easy mine is around 100 pages, but yeah the hard part is finding all the reciepts and documents you need the rest is just typing it in a program.

,

If all you have is a W2 and a few other things, yes, it's very easy. I did my own for almost 20 yrs. But when you start adding in buy/sale stocks/investments, capital gains tax, buy/sale of real property, business expenses, depreciation on equipment, vehicles, etc. the use of a good CPA is vital. All of that gets out of the wheelhouse of the average man.

You are just too lazy, jakethesnake knows it all.
I did ours for 25 years and mainly used TurboTax. The cost for my CPA is not much more and I am very happy or just very lazy.

Haha. Yeah, I guess he does. FWIW, I finished ours last night since I had all of our stuff together and the internet speed was better. Next year I may pay someone because my wife's training business related stuff may complicate it.

A knowledge tax preparer is a good option for simple to moderate level taxes. CPA is vital for any one with a business, LLC partnership, etc. It's better for me financially to pay my CPA than the hours it would take me to do it.

This year I have my Mom & Dad's K1 and 1099's from gas wells/mineral rights. I think I'll just pay the man (or woman).
