I've done our taxes for years and was wondering if it may be worth it to hand it over to someone else. Taxact has been pretty user friendly but the price seems to be getting higher partly because we have more forms now. I've tried to start them this year but our internet connection out here is horrendous and I'm getting frustrated waiting on things to load. Ours are pretty simple. I have a couple W2s, my wife has some income and expenses from personal training, and I have some investment account tax forms.

Anyways, how much do you pay someone to do taxes? Ballpark figure

I don't have time or the patience to do our taxes. I send my to a CPA. I paid 400.00 for ours last year, seems a little high but I don't have to mess with it.

And for those of you who did your own and now use someone else, do you feel like they get you more back than you would have on your own?

My wife is a CPA (just went inactive) but doesn't like doing tax accounting and isn't up on all the loopholes and doesnt work as an accountant. Usually I do them and she looks back over it to see if anything glaring stands out.

Mine charges $250. What I also like is he gives free tax advice throughout the year as part of that. I’ve emailed him with questions no less than 5 or 6 times this year and he’s provided advice at no extra charge. Not sure if that’s normal with all CPA’s but I like it. lol.

I’ve got a cpa who does mine. I’ve got two 1099 jobs and two w2 jobs with my wife having a w2 as well. Will get raked over the coals with mine this year so trying to do every write off I can.

you may want to try a version that isn't a web program. Turbotax has a web based program and a program they sell on amazon that you download to your computer. A down loaded copy would take a while to down load or update but the rest is stored on your computer. lately iv'e been doing the downloaded one because it's cheaper and the program stays on your computer instead of the web.

I'm thinking about getting someone to do ours this year...if they aren't to expensive...I have to pay taxes every year...and crunching some numbers looks like I have to pay a fair amount again this year 🥴

My dad was a CPA and said that if someone's taxes arent too complicated that H&R Block had good software. I went to one once to get ours done after he died and I think the office you visit makes a lot of difference. Some are great some are not. Ive been doing mine for several years with taxslayer and have been pleased with their service. Many local libraries around us in missouri have retired CPAs that will do taxes for free. You might look into if that might be offered in your area.

Just do it yourself. It's easy. Elementary school level work.

I use Free Tax USA because it's only $14.99 total. Federal is free and state is $14.99. I've been doing mine since I was 16. My dad always raised me to never pay another man to do my work. If you have time for aldeer, you have time to take care of your priorities as an adult. Just be honest and admit your lazy. No offense

If I had my own business or had a side job I’d go the CPA route. Just a basic filing like we do now is too simple to justify paying someone to do it. I used tax act and it was maybe 70 bucks total? That includes audit protection. Took me all of a couple of hours to knock it out and refunds get direct deposited into the bank account. Unless I run into an unexpected issue or change my employment to self employed I’ll keep doing them myself.

I just do Turbo Tax and Std Deduction. ~$40 and takes me ~20 mins. I am in FL and we don't have state income tax.

I've had the same lady do mine for 30 years. She charges $100 and it's worth every penny. I remember the first year she did mine, I wondered would she find a bunch of hidden deductions I had never found and the only thing I missed was the taxes on my car tags. This was before the days of tax software, I was doing it all by hand.

This right here. If she saves $300 and have to pay her $300 it is worth it me. I really dislike the IRS and ATF. Plus the Christmas cards her office sends out are hilarious.

Mine has saved me more than I've paid him over the years. Income on timber sales has it's own rules and schedules , many CPAs don't know how to do them and I certainly don't. My guy does , he handles several timberland owners and loggers.
