Speaking of oil changes...

We have the 3.6 liter engine in 2 of our Jeeps and in my Ram 1500 truck. I love the engine. Makes great power without the need for direct injection. Has a timing chain instead of timing belts, and is over all a great engine, and that is confirmed by many best engine awards, however there is one major failure point...

The damned oil cooler/filter/pressure sensor/temp sensor housing which is made of plastic and is housed in the valley between the cylinder banks and under the intake manifold. It will crack and leak up to 2 quarts of oil in between the cylinder heads. The cost to replace it is about $500 minimum. When you get it replaced go with the best all aluminum one you can get. Don't go back with the factory part. Go have this checked out now.

We have had the one on Mrs. Irish's 2013 Rubicon Unlimited and my 2018 Ram 1500 4x4 replaced this January and I'm going to take my 2013 Rubicon down there and just have it replaced for good measure.

Other than that they have all been great engines.

Buy the Dorman all aluminum cooler from Rock Auto and change it yourself. It's pretty straight forward and easy. I changed mine on my 2016 Wrangler and Woodsman42's 2015 Wrangler. Yes the original plastic design is horsechit.

I don't know why anyone thinks plastic on an engine is a good thing.

The only people that think it's a good idea are the people that only want it to last 3yrs/60,000 miles because after that, a broken part is not an expense, but revenue

There are 3 certainties in an uncertain world:

1. All Politicians Are Liars
2. All Gun Laws Are an Infringement
3. Taxation Is Theft

Just watched a YouTube video about the above link. No clue about the company but the price is right.

My mechanic told me the Dorman wasn't the one to get. He recommends a different one that it's all aluminum too. He keeps several in stock and says that do a couple to a few a week at their place.

I used to do pretty much all the work on my cars and trucks. I've even worked as a mechanic on a race team for a short period of time, but up here, I don't have a garage and I can afford to pay somebody to do the work. I've been very happy with Fort Payne Automotive. Good folks and good quality work.

Plastic pistols, plastic rifles, and plastic engines...

I miss the good ol' days. Give me the days of steel, wood and canvas.

when the northstar went to a plastic intake it gained 10 horsepower from the improved air flow. but yeah probably not good for what you got. the 3.6 pentastar is supposed to be dodges best engine ever though.
